Hello, my name is Patty. One of my passions in life is my occupation as a physical therapist assistant. My job is a lot like a physical therapist, I carry my own case load and do most of the same treatments, I just don't do the evaluations. I love helping people find enjoyment in exercise when they didn't before or helping someone get their life back through movement. There are so many great things in this world to experience and I want to do anything I can to help people get out there and make the most of their life.

Good for you Patty! I am a newly retired RN, spent last 20 yr in home health. I worked with many therapy assistants, extremely valuable people in patients recovery.

Hi Patty, Welcome to our group! Would you share some of the activities (i.e. exercise, movement activities) that you have shared with your obese patients? This is a particularly difficult group to affect behavior change. We did a study with two groups and used a number of different strategies to get them to move more than they were currently in the habit of doing. I would love to hear your suggestions. startmovingstartliving.com/

Hi Patty. Waiting to hear back from you as to the ideas you have found helpful in your practice.

I'm sorry I haven't gotten back to you. I guess I didn't see your request. Some things I find helpful in my practice is introducing my patients to rolling their muscles with either a tiger tail massage roller or a rolling pin to improve blood flow and decrease muscle restriction prior to stretching or in some cases in place of stretching. Also the 3 way straight leg raise is usually pretty safe on the knee joints.

These are great ideas. I know you will be able to share these types of things with others on Healthunlocked.
