Breath holding

Hi, just wondering if anyone has experience of severe breath holding. My 14th month old has episodes weekly, since he was 4 months old. I’m finding there is little support. It’s horrific to witness, and when unwell they are on a daily basis. He has recently started nursery, they have been great, but such a worry x

Hello,

I do hope that we are able to help today.

I am sorry to hear that your son has been experiencing these horrible episodes, i am sure that they are very worrying for you.

Breath holding is different to RAS, in that during breath holding the heart continues to beat normally, but the breathing stops temporarily. Breath holding is not done on purpose and is a reflex.

If you would like to phone us to discuss, please do call on 01789 867503. We will be able to talk more in depth about your son's situation, and can hopefully give you some useful advise.

Best Wishes,

Thank you Charlene. I have been in contact with one of your colleagues. He is under a consultant not yet diagnosed. We go on 26th. Im thinking breathing holding but just seems so bad to witness. When you say breath holding sounds trival and what he does is so scary. He has been poorly for over a week and teething, so ‘episodes’ have been more. Normally he has one a week, but the most he has had has been 6 in one weekend, 3 in one day.
