Egg harvesting and mycophenolate/hydroxychloroquine

We are considering egg harvesting to potentially (one day) use the embryos, if the option presents itself. Ie, if/when my disease is less active and more stable. (IVF/ gestational carrier/another... who knows?) I am currently on hydroxychloroquine and transitioning to mycophenolate in May.

Of course, this is something we will discuss with the consultant (Prof Denton), but I guess before may at my next appointment, I'm just curious to understand if anyone has gone through the egg harvesting process whilst on mycophenolate? Is it even possible? What was your experience please? I know mycophenolate is not compatible with pregnancy.

As you can imagine, there's a lot on the mind and in some respects, trying to control the controllables where possible.

Thanks in advance.

HelloInteresting question indeed. No experience at all but l was wondering is there a different medication to take that is suitable in pregnancy?

Its worth asking your consultant what options you have.

All the best.

I’m doing IVF and haven’t been put on any other medications for that reason. Prednisone is safe in pregnancy and might help! I’m trying to get them to prescribe it because the hormones are flaring my mixed connective tissue disease but so far they’re very cautious about medications!

Oh that's interesting! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. What medications were you on before? Are you off everything entirely then, but now having a flare up?

I’m on hydroxychloroquine and have been for a couple of years. I was doing ok this time round (did a previous cycle with different meds and flared badly) but the last few days I’ve been a fluey, rashy mess and I’m fairly sure it’s my lupus flaring.

Good luck with yours, hope you get everything stabilised and it all goes well for you!
