Yes. I was on it for a number of years before a doctor yanked me off of it and wouldn't refill it. Haven't had a decent night's sleep since. It does work though.

Sounds like a benzodiazepine, like valium (diazepam), klonopin (clonazepam) , xanaxalprazolam) and ativan (lorazepam). Highly addictive. Benzodiazepines increase the neurotransmitter GABA, a calming neurotransmitter that your body makes. After a few weeks your body is making less GABA and you return to zero advantage. But if you quit taking it you will get rebound anxiety for a few days, which most people think means they still need it. It's not a long term solution for insomnia or anxiety. Finding an antidepressant

that works for you is a better answer long term. I also take Trazedone, an SSRI antidepressant that was never used as an antidepressant because it makes people very

sleepy.

Temazepam does work to let me wake up later, but not as much to get to sleep. I have trouble staying asleep, so I take it around 1-3 am depending on when I wake. It seems to help a little, but I am taking it regularly so its effects might have diminished. What I like about it is that for me at least it has almost no side effects. With drugs like Belsomra, I would get bizarre dreams.
