Halucinations

Hello I'm a newbie to this sight but been a member of Health unlocked for years. My problem is hypnopompic halucinations during the night. On waking during sleep I am aware of people walking around in my room. They look as if they are just going about there day . Not interested in me, although can be a bit disconcerting if someone looks in your direction! I've also seen cats and dogs which is worrying as I'm not an animal lover. After a couple of seconds and me usually putting a light on they are gone.

This has been going on now for a couple of years and quite frankly I now dread going to bed!

I am taking Bisoprolol, Amlodipine and Rheumatoid Arthritis drugs.

Any thoughts?

Hi, I have hypersomnia and take Modafinil in the day to keep me awake and Zopiclone and various types of pain medication at night to help me sleep. I was diagnosed after a sleep test and it showed I never get into the a deep sleep. I walk and eat in my sleep and I also see people. I usually see a small group stood at the side of my bed and sometimes a man walking at the bottom of the bed. I close my eyes as soon as I see them and then keep having a quick look until they are gone. I don't see dogs but I see spiders on the bed, I don't have a spider phobia but it is very distressing I now have all white bedding so I can check they aren't crawling up the bed.

This is how I deal with the hallucinations , and I just keep telling myself they aren't real. I wish I had an answer for you but you are not alone.

Hi, no need to worry there are explanations. I had a brain injury two and a half years ago and have phenomenal waking dream states, these also include outward projections. Basically what you are seeing outside are aspects of your dreams projecting to the outer world.

What you are seeing are dream 'entities' that are archetypes of your psyche. You don't like cats and dogs yet there they are, the part of you that does not like cats and dogs resides in your subconscious and comes alive in your dream states.

Yes it all sounds a bit mad but it is a very real thing. My whole life has unravelled in front of me through these states and I am a better person for it. It can be difficult to accept and be quite frightening to begin with. If you went to a shrink they would ask you to explain your dreams and what you see in them, then they would ask what they mean to you, ie why don't you like cats and dogs and so on.

What you actually have is a gift, the ability to 'see' your psyche and experience your consciousness. Whether you want to experience these things is up to you, if there are dark aspects to your life it will come out. Start writing your experiences down and think about them and try to understand them, use mindfulness to ground yourself to the here and now and go from there into your inner psyche.

If this sounds a bit scary then see a shrink and get anti-psychotic medication and shut it all down.

Research Carl Jung, the Red Book. Lucid dream states, hypnagogic states, Kundalini and the DMT experience.

Hope this helps.
