Sleep ... What sleep

I was diagnosed by one specialist with Narcolepsy, where I have suffered from a sleep condition all my life ... I just cope now. I am on Gabapentin to help try and get around six to seven hours sleep a night. I sleep talk, and walk, do automotive tasks when a sleep, wake in places I do not remember how I got there have regular times when I know I am going to fall asleep and can do nothing to prevent it (at least I get a warning) - daytime sleepiness, suffer from occasional sleep paralysis, and have been frowned upon and treated like a drunk; I do not drink any alcohol. Some disabilities are invisible, but hey I cope.

I also take Topiramate for headaches and Symbicort for lungs.

Hi Johnny -one,

I have Hypersomnia which is in the same group of sleep disorders as Narcolepsy. The main difference is once asleep l can sleep for hours if know one wakes me, but I wake exhausted as l never get the right sleep day or night. My diagnosis was confirmed after a sleep test.

I suffer all the sleepwalking, talking automotive tasks as you l sometime wake up dressed. I was referred to my consultant for sleep eating often huge quantities, the bed is often covered with part eaten food. I have also eaten none edible things, hand cream, earphones. Our family are grow so there is just me and my husband who works nights.

I take Modafinil 200mg twice daily which keeps me from sleeping in inappropriate places. The side effects take a bit of getting used to, but better than sleeping my life away.

Sorry if I've gone on a bit! Just one of the side affects.

Keep well,

Elaine
