Happened twice now. After 2 two hours sleep my wife was woken up by my making similar noises to loud snoring . She couldnt wake me and I was unconscious for two hours. Called 999 paramedics they did checks and rushed me to hospital AE . When I was coming round was very muddled and had slurry speech. Within 15 minutes all getting back to normal , no time did I have headaches. At hospital blood checks blood pressure etc etc found nothing . Thought unlikely to be mild stroke. Has anybody had similar experience .

Hi Snony

That sounds quite frightening and a bit unnerving with them not being able to pinpoint anything.

I have severe obstructive sleep apnoea, 67 incidents an hour when I was monitored. I could sleep for 10 hours yet wake up absolutely shattered. I have COPD as well and just put it down to reduced lung function. I saw an out of hours Doctor in A&E for a COPD flare-up, mentioned how tired I was even though I had mammoth sleeping seasons and he referred me to the NHS sleep clinic who monitored me sleeping and found out that as soon as I fell asleep my throat closed until I gasped myself into breathing again. Low oxygen levels and a type of brain fog.

I’m now of a CPAP machine which keeps my throat open at night allowing me to get restful, recuperating sleep.

It may be worth seeing your doctor and talking about a referral to the sleep clinic.

People used to say I was such a heavy sleeper with a loud snore when in fact I was in a state of choking 67 times an hour.

Hope you find out what the cause is.

Best regards

Wow, how scary for both you and your wife! I would definitely get into see a sleep specialist right away!

Good luck!

Hi Snony - That sounds really scary. I have never heard of that but I would be getting to my Doc stat... As CCWW said, I also have severe obstructive sleep hypopnea - 97 events per hour - and like you two I woke up shattered as well. Please don't put it off - that is just scary to even think about...
