Chose Cosmetic surgeon to check mole or wait 4 months for dermatologist?

How can I ascertain, whether the skin lesion at the ear lobe is indeed Basal Cell Cancer as suspected by dermatologist after visual and manual inspection of the area and referred me urgently because of somewhat unclear colour. So only 16 weeks wait instead of 2 years

My private health insurance authorised initial consultation, out-patient procedure and histology. Sadly their only dermatologist within 6 miles is booked until February.

The hospital suggested I used one of their cosmetic surgeons, who have spare capacity. And get the authorisation changed for this.

How much will they be able to do? Just diagnose or also remove? Will this give me certainty about the nature of the lesion and find the best treatment?

I opted for the cosmetic surgeon.

The surgeon’s main areas of expertise are … removal of small lesions such as … basal cell carcinomas.

The plastic surgeon was really good. After careful investigation he decided to remove it as soon as an appointment becomes available.
