Hi, first time posting and have some questions that would appreciate some help with.
Have a mole on shoulder that has recently increased in size (elevated) and now approx 8mm, dark pink/brown with red centre and dip in middle with some crusting/scab. Had online private GP appt (as have private medical with work through AXA) and provided some photos (attached), they gave me 2 week urgent referral mainly to exclude melanoma.
I live in Devon and local private hospital not taking urgent referrals so suggested contacting GP. I sent them the same pictures, but they are saying that nothing concerning, maybe Basel cell carcinoma but hard to tell from pics so have appt to see them tomorrow but they don’t think it’s anything to worry about.
I’m new to this and only started looking at info today, but can Basel cell carcinoma come from an existing mole? It’s definitely not a new growth, so just wondering about that. I’m age 46 female with skin.
Thanks for your help!

I had a melanoma removed 3 years ago that was originally a mole. I was very lucky that, quite by accident, it was spotted early by my dermatologist who was treating me for another issue.
I'm sure you know how important it is to get any changes in moles or new skin growths checked immediately, so you're doing the right thing. In the meantime, try not to worry too much (I know how hard that is to do!). In fact, you may have some answers by now, as I see this was posted 18 hours ago.
Thanks Fernsong I saw the GP today, they think I’ve caught something on the mole and that’s why it’s irritated (or ulcerated to use their words). I don’t think that’s happened, and said that it’s got bigger recently and a lot more noticeable. She’s given me the 2 week referral to be on the safe side. When I asked what it could be, she said amelanotic melanoma but it’s unlikely and expects it will heal before I have the dermatology appointment (just arranged for next Weds). I guess I could have caught it on something and not realised but that wouldn’t explain why the increase in size, maybe just one of those things?!
I would suggest that you definitely go to the appointment next week, even if it looks and feels better. We must be assertive when it comes to our health. Good luck!
