Basal cell cancers on scalp

Hello everyone. My mum, 87 has recurrent BCCs on her scalp as a result of taking MXT for RA. Due to ongoing recurrence, referral to Maxillofacial surgeons advised to do a wider excision as a day case to a single area with associated skin graft. Mum had her clips out of the area a week ago yesterday and the surgeons seem pleased so far but it's become very very sore. Mum has had antibiotic cover. The area is about 4 x 3 inches. Mum's wondering if it's something going wrong or whether she is just impatient about it getting better! Does anyone have similar experience and can share their experience please? Thank you.

Hi. I'm assuming you re talking about where the skin graft has been put and not where it was taken from. It would be unusual for a skin graft to be getting more painful and not less as time passes.

Is there a dressing on the graft or is it open to the air? If you can see it, is there any sign of redness around the graft (in the "normal" scalp) or any pus?

Thanks for your kind reply.

Yes, that's right, the skin graft area itself. It did also have a pressure dressing on for 10 days which was removed last Monday. Antibiotic cover was given but mum takes steroids so infections can sometimes not be so obvious. There doesn't seem to be any pus to speak of but GP on Monday and some more antibiotics for now.
