positive bloods. What is the blood test for Sjogren's please?
My rheumatologist says that I have Se... - The Australian Sj...
My rheumatologist says that I have Secondary Sjogren's ( with Raynaud's ) My blood test for Sjogren's was negative! I have high CREST
I know there is a blood test for CREST but I do not know of a blood test for Sjogrens. I had a lip biopsy done for Sjogrens that was very positive. There are also SED rates / RA Factor / CPK or is it CRP - which are tests that measures inflammation very well. I have Raynauds without the entire CREST ( C=Calcinosis R=Raynauds E=Esophagus S= Scoladerma T=Tangaltila - spider looking vein thing I think ) - our daughter only has the R for Raynauds come positive and the rest negative and her Raynauds is very obvious - her fingers turn ALL white up to the big knuckles and go numb in the cold but she has no pain. My test for Raynauds is negative and for the CREST also - but I have the symptoms of it but not the same as she does. My fingers go bright red when cold and hurt from the inside out. All the varying symptoms can drive a person whacky. But the Lip biopsy is a for sure test for Sjogrens - that the doc told me for sure. I was DX'd with Lupus - moved got a new Rheumy and he saw no bloods in 3 years come positive for Lupus - he suspected Sjogrens and suggested the Lip biopsy.
So then I was Primary Sjogrens along with fibromyalgia, RA, Spongilitis of spine, OA, and Photosensitivity to the sun and fluorescent lights and allergies that seem to be fading. I hope this helps explain. The Internet now has loads of info about the actually blood work results but it is hard for me to interpret it unless they give the range of norm for each test. Hope you find your answers and that you feel better - fondly, Diane
Dear Diane, How very kind of you to take the time to help explain. I find that things keep changing, I just become accustomed one set of problems and need to deal with new medications etc. I am fortunate compared with your circumstances. Thanks for your assistance.Good luck with your health.Blessings.
Secondary Sjogren's is when symptoms are accompanied by a connective tissue disease such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus or Scleroderma, CREST is when you display symptoms of each they call this an overlap. Raynaud's is when the capillaries in the hand and feet constrict creating poor circulation. The blood test for Sjogren's specific markers or antibodies indicative of Sjogren's syndrome (SS-A or SS-B). These tests are not definitive, because not everyone with Sjogren's tests positive for these auto-antibodies (ordered by a Rheumatologist).
