Treatments for underactive bladder

Hello,

I'm new here, does anyone have any experience of having therapeutic/medical treatments for underactive bladder and how has it helped you? Only been prescribed catheters and given no other options/advice.

Hi i take it you mean Neurogenic bladder and given/told to do ISC/Self Cathing?

In short no! in longer though if they have found cause? they might be able to improve/rectify what's causing it?

Do they or have they said/found where issue lies?

Have you been through child birth? As when do you displace hips which is known to trap nerves sometimes.

Injuries/falls? Spinal/Back issues? Any issues with legs? like numbness/pins & needles?

What sort of Age are you?

Is it total or partial non emptying (Voiding).

Mind guess lucky in some respects it's not other way! (On the Floor)

Some of the Uro dept are not so Hot!

I had a mountain of issues trying to get things changed/sorted with ISC's i'd had botox which is mean't to slow bladder down! so you have to self empty residue or more they gave these long things which found too fiddly and way too long to take with you where issues was mostly when out in the cold!

You'd have thought was asking for Gold Bullion! they used Charter to supply and i just wanted bigger size and telescopic types so could carry.

So something to be mindful of with them.

Thank you, i didn't mention it's for somebody else, she is older so i think that may be the reason. It's not been investigated or explained to her so i said I would try to find out more info. She also struugles with the catheters. Did the botox work for you?

Hi Botox was for "overactive" it's been a mixed journey sort of thing!

Seemed to have got all the disadvantaged without the advantage? was a few years back i had it but atmo not too bad ! But it sort of moved everything along the ledge to popped off the end sort of thing so nothing till help!

Then it's need to go now! But end up with can't fully empty for long while when going even worse when Cold!

I do have a few other things causing issues like Fibro/Raynauds and spinal issues like discs and nerve entrapments.

Trouble with your issues is that your trying to make something happen not trying to stop it which in other matters wouldn't be a problem but the bladder being an enclosed system it's awkward being the muscles work the opposite way round to all intents and purposes!.

For same reason with trying to improve indwelling Catheters you have to go in the same entrance that need to come out of as you can't get to it from the other side!.

Needs to be more determined the cause/issue more.

Have they looked any further and does your friend have any other illnesses?

Spinal/hips/MS/Diabetes/and much more can be the cause.

She can ask for an Indwelling Catheter(they will squeal moan berate chastise you and much more most likely! Simple just tell them to do there job and find reason/answer! but some will be more understanding and helpful "Numbers Game".)

You can mix between the two methods as many do once been ISC'ing after a while.

But always don't take no for answer and do whatever it takes to get a Flip flo valve on it!

As that becomes the end of your sealed system then can choose to just use that or bag.night bag and daytimes bag which the Rusch Belly bag is the best as lets the bladder work naturally so it might learn to push it out if problem is the Sphincter keeping it closed?

Does she get the pain that wants to go but can't?

Leg bags cause syphoning issues which leads to irritations and damage to bladder wall if kept doing(Think hand over plug hole when bath is draining out it's pulled in to hole which is what happens with leg bags)

If do get Catheter and valve when emptying don't just let it dangle hold it so roughly bladder height so not allowing air back in if dangling down.

Takes a while to learn but once done will find less irritations.

It's not always fully draining with them but more keeping urine changing so kept fresh!.

Many find the Male length indwelling better for them than female as it's longer so can keep end out of the way and draining options!.

Trouble with most Medics/Quacks they only want to do/give/deal with what's Best for them!

Feel free to shout out if need any help
