I wrote a couple of days ago about "ups and downs' with this cancer. Today I saw my hand surgeon. It seemed like he was the dr. to start with. I really like him alot. He looked at my records (not a quick or easy thing to do!) examined my hands and thinks this is nerve related and that I should contact my onc and neurologist. I said I would but asked him to reach out to them too.
So, I called and left messages with both their nurses. I'm worried! I usually am pretty calm about things going on with my health, am at the moment I'm not sure whether I'm more nervous about what this means cancer wise, or about getting in touch with my doctors!
Neurologist's nurse just called. She'll see that he gets my message and the hand Dr's message. I sure appreciate that, but no appt or referral for scans or nerve testing. I hate feeling like this!Glad I can blow off steam here!

I remember about 4 months ago when you posted your dilemma about having surgery and Marioots and someone else shared their experiences. I think they had suggested you try PT and I was wondering if that might still be an option for you. Whenever I think I’m in a bad way, I realize it could be worse and as you say your hands are so important. My son is a helicopter pilot in the military and has survived Iraq and Afghanistan. He will retire next year and I’ll be so glad. Another of his friends just died in an accident and so many of these young men are left so debilitated at such a young age. I do hope you get a referral soon and can make some improvement on your current situation. Hugs Chris
Thanks foe your concern. I ppreciate it!I've had alot of PT, and OT. Occupational therapy. It really focuses on the hands and arms. I have damaged nerves and seeing my neurologist and onc makes sense to me.
Maybe an orthopedic practitioner or chiropractor can help you. Ever since I fell with my bike a few years ago, I have had problems with my neck and shoulders and my left hand. I keep dropping things unless I am concentrating hard on holding them. So maybe there is a nerve compressed and an orthopedic practitioner or chiropractor can help you determine if this is the case with you and help solve the problem. They have helped me. All the best for you.
Thank you. I think I need some scanes to see if cancer is involved. It has been before and focused radiation helped alot> I also had a small met on the surface of my brain and it was taken care of by focused rads. I think scans of those areas will answer questions about what's goingg on now.Brain mets are scary!
I hope you are luckier than I have been. I wish I never got the surgery. I think our treatments affect the healing process. It has been almost 1 1/2 years since my surgery. That's why I suggested you go to PT instead of surgery. Since my surgery I have been to 2 hand surgeons, 2 PT facilities, pain management and a neurologist. No one has an answer. My left hand is deformed, and my hand and arm are stiff and tingling and burning with muscle spasms and pain. I can't grasp anything with it and it is getting weaker and more useless everyday. The neurologist wants me to get an mri in December. He didn't offer any options except Gabapentin which I can't take. I pray you have better luck. I have carpal tunnel in my right hand and now it's tingling too!
Oh, I'm sorry you have such a truly awful time! Health care is so complicated and when we have several diagnoses, it can get really crazy. I am feeling much better today than I did went I posted! And my onc has ordered MRI's of the brain, thoracic and lumbar spine. She asked that those be scheduled within a week and I couldn't get them until 12 days from now, but at least they are scheduled and I'm waiting a call back about when I can see my onc! I got my Rx ankle braces and shoes today and they are making a huge difference for me!
I’m so glad your new braces and shoes are helping! I know it’s nerve wracking to wait but it’s great they’ve got you booked in now for the scans. Sending comfort and good thoughts for your results
