Gabapentin works!

After weeks of awful hot flashes, changing sheets in the middle of the night and mostly not getting any sleep, I had decided to give up and let nature take her course and come off the Ibrance and Faslodex. But someone posted that gabapentin would help! It did! I also found Bentyl for my stomach cramps and Valium for the awful muscle spasms. I never thought I would take so many drugs but I also never thought I would be in a fight with a beast I couldn’t see or hear! Has it been hard to adapt? Hell yes! But giving up is not an option! Don’t quit. Tell your doctor and don’t accept them just ignoring your concerns! Stand up for yourself and your well-being. I also learned that a PILL TO REPLACE FASLODEX is in Stage 3 trials and may be available in a year! That is huge for those of us with flat butts! Tomorrow may be another bad day, but today I feel hopeful and you can, too!

Thanks for the reminder that Gabapentin seems to work for alot of things. Just happen to have some and will try it for some of my current pains.

I have hot flushes also. My nurse told me to take the meds at night because of them. Oh boy. They are awful. I am used to them now after 2 years. For cramps I know take Magnesium. Ladies on here recommended it and it really works. I have the very odd episode. For my stomach I take Ginger in anyway shape or form. I take Ibrance and Letrozole. I have a Denosumab injection once a month for bone strengthening. I hope you can overcome your problems soon. Never give up. There’s so many different meds we can try.

Take care

HI! Glad you're feeling better!I was put on Gabapentin for pain when I was diagnosed..nothing else seemed to help my hip and leg pain from a pelvic tumor. I started with 300 mg spread out through the day but when sciatic pain got worse after I tried to play golf...hah, the recourse was to take an extra 200 mg at night for a total of 500mg throughout the day. So it keeps me happy and comfortable..though I sometimes forget to take an after noon dose because I'm not experiencing pain. My physical therapist said that sometimes it takes the body 6 months to recover from nerve impact (probably radiation damage in the area of leg nerves) and to just be patient and let the gabapentin do its work.Interestingly, low wbc counts have been bothering me and ONC thought that the increase in gabapentin could be to blame. Gabapentin is a great med for pain...I was very leery of it at first but it far outperforms tramadol or hydrocodone...

They do seem rather free with those Rx pads. You still have to be your own best advocate. I tell myself every time I swallow a pill that someday I will have to be in detox for the necessary use of the drug now. I tried to tough it out but I couldn’t beat it..,snd now I am grateful for the drugs that make me human again.

Great news about the pill getting to the next stage.. I find the large dose at all once (not to mention the sore butt) difficult to take.. I am off it for a while and hope I can manage until the pill becomes available, or I can get on a trial.

I take Gabapentin 1200 mg per day for nerve pain from past surgical scarring--didn't help menopause symptoms. My primary doctor prescribed Effexor (Venlafaxine XSR CAP 75 MG) after my first estrogen-blocking regime --it is a miracle drug. No menopause symptoms! With MBC diagnosis this past October I've had a lot of anxiety (duh) and not able to sleep. The oncologist prescribed Valium and Ambium--a bit heavy duty for me. Primary prescribed Trazodone 100 MG taken before bed--another miracle drug! I now get a full 7 hours of uninterrupted sleep--except when I get a leg cramp. Surgeon friend told me to keep Tums on my bedside table. When a cramp starts up, I chew two and then on occasion another two. It works for me. Hope some of this works for you.

For me it is gabapentin 400-500mg at night along with venlafaxine ER 75mg. This works wonders for the hot flashes and causes drowsiness so I can sleep. Before taking these drugs I was a basket case with interrupted sleep. Doc said I could use some gabapentin during the day but I try not to due to the drowsiness.

Remember if you go off of the venlafaxine, you need to be tapered off.
