I know it’s something we bought for asbestos removal and never used. It’s a snug fit and I hope better than nothing. I’m only going to essential treatments at the hospital

Better than nothing is good. I wish I had one!

Many medical personnel in NY which is in worse condition than any other state and growing every day by the thousands and we are in shut down mode. The poor medical personnel, they do not even have enough for them.

And they are risking their lives to protect us and those infected and there are not enough masks for them. We are told that those masks are ONLY for medical personnel and are not being sold in NY to private people.

I live in NY. Even if I had one (which I do not), I would be giving to someone who is fighting this battle of the virus since they need it more than I do. The doctors and nurses need it more for protection of the virus. If we do not have any doctors and nurses left, then it won't matter.

Wow. I'm jealous. I have an N95 mask with filter. Husband had it hanging around when he cleaned up basement. You do look like a fighter pilot! Go get 'em!!!

No masks or TP here in Ohio 😱

β€’ in reply toRhwright12

Oh, gosh, re: the TP....I could kick myself for leaving my beach house week before last without any TP! I had just received a shipment of hundreds of rolls (to supply the house/renters for a few months) and grabbed only one 6 pack to bring, wrapped with ribbon, as a sort of "gag" hostess gift when I stayed with a friend in Raleigh! I returned to Dallas to find just a few rolls...and half a box of tissues!

Not to get graphic, but let me mention how I'm handling this. I've traveled to many places where you could not flush toilet paper down the toilet...e.g. "hotels"/lodging places kept a lined bin next the the "commode" and you'd place used TP in it. I have plenty of paper towels at home so I've started to use those in instances where the need to flush is...less important?...and I toss into the plastic bag. In cases where you really need to flush the paper, I use the TP and then flush. Not sure what I'll do if I completely run out...I guess paper towels for both?

Good luck with it! I do think some stores are getting some in and are rationing it...

OMG, I'm so glad to read that!! I did consider a doomsday scenario with no paper products and thought to myself that I could always resort to cut up towels and then launder them with bleach? I still remember my mom using cloth diapers when my little brother was born...same thing, right? :)

At least other patients will keep their distance. Lol you look fierce !

Wow, that's awesome! You look like you're definitely not to be messed with! :)

My friends, one retired from the military, and one retired from law enforcement sent me a picture of them wearing much scarier looking military grade masks. One wore it to the supermarket just to see what people would say. Well people were offering him upwards of $3,000 on the spot. These masks are no longer available online anywhere. Have we all gone insane from fear. I will not fear or worry, but I will continue to pray for the front line workers, the elderly who are more susceptible, and those with pre-existing conditions. Amen. I will also individually pray the Serenity Prayer. My sister/warriors please stay up to date on the precautions use to keep you, your loved ones, and others safe from this Corona virus. XoXoXo

β€’ in reply toRLN-overcomer

Amen. IF we do not protect the front line workers, nothing will matter anyway. If I had one, which I don't, I would be giving it to a medical worker in the hospital where there is a major shortage in NY.

Just curious. Where do you live? Because in NY (where we are the state with the most infected group of people and we are in complete shut down mode). Up to date close to 18,000 and about 9,000 just in NYC.

They do not have enough masks like those for the medical personnel in NY. They are not allowing private citizens to use them or even purchase them bc if the medical personnel are not safe and get infected, then we CANNOT BE TREATED.

You cannot live in NY for sure. I am surprised even in US that you would be able to get one.

The Gov. of NY is begging people who are retired in the medical field for help. Every day in NY the number jumps to thousands, not hundreds of new cases.

Equipment like that should be given to the medical personnel who are manning the hospitals. The Gov. has even stated we do not have enough masks, beds or ventilators for the amount of people they expect in days to start having to go to the hospital.

Sorry, I understand you fear as my fear also as someone who lives in NY and has cancer spread to their lungs. But I guess it bothers me a bit that we don't have enough medical masks for the workers in the hospital that are trying to be going and saving lives. The Gov. stated, it is a fact, that we will have many deaths here in NY.

I think all medical personnel need those masks more than any of us. They are going to be dealing with infected people every day. Risking their lives for us.

Sorry, just my thoughts. God bless. If you lived in NY, that would be taken from you and given to a medical personnel so I am assuming for sure you do not live in NY.

These mask are not Dr.'s or Nurse's hospital medical masks. They are military grade germ warfare mask. These masks would not be used by Dr.'s or nurses at hospitals. I hope you clearly understand this post now.

β€’ in reply toRLN-overcomer

Well if they would not be used by doctors or nurses, why would someone use them at all?

The people who are retired military, and retired law enforcement can do what ever they want with their germ/gas warfare masks. It is theirs. I can spend my time doing more important things, than responding to you. Adios, Adios Adios.

This is an old mask we had in our garage. I can assure you that no doctor or nurse in the world would be allowed to use a second hand mask from a private citizen stored in their garage πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„ it’s actually a mask designed for asbestos removal

How stupid is it to say that the U.S. Government would take a mask from a private/retired military, and or retired law enforcement citizen of the United States . This is an untruth. These masks were given to and fitted for these retired friends of mine when they were working on the front lines to keep this country safe, before they retired. Their are people panicking, and losing their minds, and someone on this blog posted this ridiculous statements. So I guess the government will be knocking on all retired military, and retired law enforcement workers doors who were issued germ warfare/gas masks with guns drawn to confiscate them. P-L-E-A-S-E. Thank you for your post, hopefully those making ridiculous untrue statements will watch their judging spirit. Okay I am trying to get back on my Christian path where my Lord, and Savior would want me to be. I am still giving you praise LORD/GOD. Amen XoXoX

β€’ in reply toRLN-overcomer

Sorry if I offended you but I live in NY where we have over 16,000 confirmed people with the virus and growing daily. We have 5% of the people infected all over the world with the virus, just in NY. They do not have enough beds, masks and ventilators for the influx of people they expect shortly in the hospitals.

The Gov. himself asked if people had such masks if they could provide them to the medical personnel in the hospitals. They even asked retired people to come out of retirement as they do not have enough medical personnel. We have over 16,000 in just one state in the US, 5% of the world cases are in NY.

Not you added comments that I did not say. No one is going to come to your door with guns and army personnel and guns to confiscate any such masks. (Nice addition to disparage my remark). They are asking people to please DONATE.

And to refer what I said as stupid, my thought is you have no idea if you do not live in NY where we have 5% of all people infected with the virus OUT OF THE WHOLE WORLD. See below portion of article.

"After seeing a screenshot of a text from a frustrated nurse who had no N95 respirator masks and worried about being infected with coronavirus early this week, Julianne Dalcanton leaped into action.

As chair of the University of Washington astronomy department, Dalcanton normally spends her time thinking about galaxy formation, not health care supply chains. But on Tuesday night she tweeted out a link to an online form soliciting donations of respirators from the general public that could be donated to nurses and doctors."

"In less than 48 hours, Dalcanton said, her call out brought in some 1,700 masks, which are being picked up by a network of more than 15 volunteers and distributed to hospitals, nursing homes, and directly to health care workers in the Seattle area."

In NY they are basically begging for things to be donated. We are way short-handed for basic things for the medical staff to work with these patients.

(Copied from NY Times): "If you bought masks and have them at home, donate them to a hospital immediately. You will be safer if your doctors are safer."

No, they would not be knocking on doors or grabbing it off your face, they are asking people to please DONATE them to those who need them the most.

So because you do not obviously live in NY, then you are not aware of what is going on and as referenced above, I WAS NOT MAKING RIDICULOUS OFF THE WALL STATEMENTS. I was stating the reality of what is going on here in NY. Yes, they are asking for donations and willing to accept whatever they can get bc of the amount of people in NY infected and they do not have enough equipment even to keep the medical staff safe.

Just because you do not agree with how I feel about it, does not mean it is not true which is why I referenced that you obviously do not live here in NY.

It's basic. When you have so many people in one state with the virus and thousands growing daily and not enough equipment, yes they will ask for donations and will take them, USED or NOT USED.

We are just different people in different areas obviously. If I had one, I would give it up to the medical personnel bc I live in NY. Maybe it is not so bad in your area that they are not begging for supplies. Consider your lucky.

"Thank you for your post, hopefully those making ridiculous untrue statements will watch their judging spirit."

You referred to my remarks as stupid, thus inadvertently calling me stupid. That is fine with me if you wish to be blind to the reality of what is going on here in NY. You also referenced them as untrue, when in fact it is it is true here in NY. Just maybe not where you live.

Like I have mentioned, you do not live in NY so you have no idea of the reality of what is going on here and begging for donations from people that may have them and begging medical personnel who are retired to come and help.

But it is okay to refer to my remarks as stupid (thus calling me stupid), because I did indeed make comments that may have been taken as me thinking you were selfish. Of course, if you live elsewhere the situation is not as grim, it is not an issue.

So I stand by my facts as a New Yorker. We need to protect out medical personnel so that they are able to protect the influx of patients. If we lose them, we are doomed to have no one to help us.

I am Catholic also so I will also go back on my path to not being hurt or even bothered by the statements made about me and my comment.

β€’ in reply toScandia68

You do not live in NY either. That is the difference in these responses. NY alone has 5% of all people infected with the virus in the world. One state.

(Copied from NY Times): "If you bought masks and have them at home, donate them to a hospital immediately. You will be safer if your doctors are safer." πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„ (emphasis added)

I will not continue this conversation because the reality is that the people who are putting me down for what I said do not live in NY and thus are not affected by the 14,000 people we have now, 9,000 alone of which reside in NY City.

I would feel safer and more comfortable also if I lived elsewhere where although the virus is still an issue, it is certainly not as bad as here in NY where they expect that they will not even have enough medical personnel to care for those who are sick. And that is our reality. Every day we get another breaking report (happening right now). In NY, every day, the amount rises by thousands, not hundreds of people infected. God knows how many of us have it and are not aware yet.

"After seeing a screenshot of a text from a frustrated nurse who had no N95 respirator masks and worried about being infected with coronavirus early this week, Julianne Dalcanton leaped into action.

In less than 48 hours, Dalcanton said, her call out brought in some 1,700 masks, which are being picked up by a network of more than 15 volunteers and distributed to hospitals, nursing homes, and directly to health care workers in the Seattle area."

Again you don't know where I live. This pandemic is worldwide. I have family, and friends who work in the hospitals, so I know what they are asking for. They are asking for hospital masks, not germ warfare, gas masks. Don't concern yourself with what you think others should do. You be the change, and do it. Have a great day.

RLN-overcomer profile image
RLN-overcomerβ€’ in reply to

Also don't be concerned as to where I live. Who are you to ask. Will you be sending the governments agents to my door. Use this energy to be concerned about your health challenges. Thank you

β€’ in reply toRLN-overcomer

I only asked because it was more than obvious that you do not live in NY and are in an area that is not has yet been heavily affected and I certainly hope to God that it does not get to the point where NY is now. I don't care where you live but it was more to point out you are not in NY.

(Oh, our Gov. of NY just announced seconds ago on NY that the amount of people in NY getting infected are DOUBLING EVERY THREE DAYS. (Fact just announced.)

We are now up to 25,000 cases (imagining doubling that every three days). The amount of people being infected is out of control now.

They are now saying that they will be taking over New York hotels because they are running out of space. And he is on TV now saying that hospital workers are getting sick and he is begging for masks and ventilators and retired personnel in the medical field to come to hospitals to help out. It's scary if you live in NY and are hearing this on a daily basis.

So what is happening in NY so I guess where you live it would be okay.

No, I would not be sending govt. personnel to your door LOL. (Now that is a stupid remark.)

I hope you do not experience the fear that we have in NY that is different than any other state in NY at the moment and pray that no other states become like New York.

We all have fear about this virus, but here in NY, it is more than fear. I fear it will become like a war zone where they will have to decide who they can treat and who they will not treat like in a war where soldiers carry out the wounded who they believe have a shot at being able to be survive whereas they can't carry out all the wounded so they will look at another soldier is going to die anyway, so they will have to leave that soldier because they cannot carry all of them off the battlefield.

I have cancer, my mets are in my lungs, but I would rather them treat others that may have a better shot than I do since my cancer is in the lungs and I do not have children or family. If I get it, I realize the reality is that I probably will not make it so I would rather them try to save and treat others that are not as ill and that they may be a better shot of surviving if treated. I do not have a death wish, but it may come down to situations like this. No, I am not a Saint either, but I am a realist and realize I am not in a good position if I catch this, but there are others who if treated may have a better shot because of their health.

I hope you do not have to encounter this fear to the extent that we are in NY are facing on a daily basis.

Again you don't know ,nor will I tell you where I live. How do you know if I or someone I love has already had the Corona virus. Stop assuming you know everything. Odios

β€’ in reply toRLN-overcomer

You mean adios? It is okay, I don't care where you live my point was unless you live in NY and what is happening here, you don't understand the absolute shut down and the fear. The point was I did not really want to know I just wanted to show that you were not living in NY now because then you would understand it better and why I got upset, not really at you, but the situation.

I hope to God it stays like this in NY only and does not move about the country like it is here in NY. God bless! I know what is going on in NY because I live here. Do not assume you can even begin to understand how we feel here where we have 5% of all cases in the world in one area New York. Sorry, people nerves here are a bit frayed. Not only that but we have to worry about finding food. May God grant you peace of mind and I hope to God you or no family members of yours get it.
