Has anyone on Ibrance experienced blood clots and or pulmonary embolisms? I was in hospital last weekend as blood clot in my entire leg broke off to lungs. My oncologist doesn’t feel it was due to Ibrance but the warnings do say it is a rare complication.

Ibrance and blood clots
I have not experienced this, but if I didn’t see something on this site, I did see it on the breastcancer.org forum. I know I’ve seen someone say they did get blood clots. If I find it, I’ll let you know where.
I have a blood clotting disorder and am not supposed to be on hormones, but I have to take the risk. I’m sorry that happened to you.
I was on Ibrance and letrozol in July and was in icu for 4 days now on Eliquis doctors said may have been the ibrance or I had just returned from car trip to myrtle beach maybe the car ride or maybe just because I have cancer they don’t know had clots both lungs and leg they found it in ct scan
If you search on Ibrance and blood clots, there is an earlier post regarding this issue.
My doc perscribed Kisqali because she said it was less dangerous for blood clots than Ibrance and I had had a blood clot in each leg while in the rehab hospital before starting treatment for MBC.
Seems as if there was a thread on Ibrance and blood clots just a few days ago that had a lot of discussion about this subject if you get a chance to search for it.
I had a blood clot before I was on ibrance. There's a high correlation between cancer and blood clots, do hard to say what exactly caused yours.
My oncologist/hematologist said the same. I'm a lifer on Pradaxa (taken 2x/day). I have no problems with bleeding thankfully. Sometimes I bruise a little at the spot where they take my monthly blood test.
Ibrance isn’t causing the clots -cancer is
Hi, Sunny!
I had blood clots discovered in both lower legs at time of my MBC diagnosis two years ago. Often the result of the cancer itself. Was placed on warfarin for following year. Hope you are doing better! ❤️🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻 Linda
Has this caused more complications and made it harder to tolerate treatments?
Not at all. I was happy to finally be off the blood thinner simply because it involved regular checks of INR; ie another appointment. 🙄 But over time, I’ve found side effects of treatment (Ibrance / Letrozole) much less disabling.
I was put on Elaquis and was told will be on it for life. I wonder why the didn't keep you on a blood thinner? It seems the other people with cancer are kept on it. Elaquis doesn't require getting your INR checked.
Very scary situation indeed! I am on ibrance and faslodex too and have a stupid question; how do u know if u have or in the process of getting a clot?
The only sign I had , after doing a lot of walking, was a cramping pain in my leg that didn’t go away or get better after several days. The doctor and I thought it was a pulled muscle. Eventually just standing on it hurt. The doctor checked and said it was a little swollen but I couldn’t really notice that. I had a scan done to check it out and that’s when they found it. I had no redness or warmth, just pain.
Thanks for your reply. I do get leg and calf cramps and worry that a clot could be developing.
That is what I had .”, and the only symptoms besides slight swelling which only the doctors assistant noticed -when I asked her to check my legs. I waited before getting it checked -and it ended up breaking off in to my lungs. Luckily I got to the hospital in time before it got worse. Now I’ll be on blood thinners rest of my life. Better safe than sorry.
I had no redness, warmth and pain wasn’t worse bending foot upward. Please don’t think you don’t have one just because you don’t have these signs. I only had cramping pain .
Thank u for your reply
Again very scary!!! Hope u r doing well.
It went away with medication and heat and resting , so one would think it was muscle. It wasn’t constant then. Would start back up with activity.I’m trying to stress to get it checked out if it doesn’t feel right. Don’t wait until it gets warm and red. Mine wasn’t. If I would of went sooner maybe could of caught before it went to lungs.
I had a large pulmonary embolism just BEFORE I started treatment, so I couldn't blame that on iBrance. I'm told you're more likely to get blood clots if you have cancer. So I will be on blood thinners for the rest of my life.
Were you told how this will affect treatments or survival? I’m wondering if this lessens our survival time now.
I think it only indirectly affects survival, because blood thinners have their own risks. For example, if I were in a serious car accident, there is more risk of me bleeding out than for someone not on blood thinners. And I can no longer take aspirin, Aleve, Motrin/Advil, NSAIDs, and you should always tell any new doctor that you are on blood thinners.
I had been having frequent leg cramps, but once I had the pulmonary embolism and therefore, started on blood thinners, they went away. At first I was on lovenox (injections in abdomen twice a day), but eventually I was able to switch to an oral pill, xarelto.
Yes, I was on warfarin for about a year and was taken off when DVT had resolved.
