Sigh!

Managed to land myself in the hospital for two nights due to multiple blood clots in both lungs so I guess my new treatment is on hold for now. I did manage to get one treatment in before they sent me off to the ER. Not related to the new treatment as I developed acute symptoms while I was on my way. I wonder if this is related to the Ibrance though. I guess we’ll never know.

Oh no! I have no experience ...yet...with blood clots, but I wanted to tell you I was thinking of you. It must have been scary. Did you have trouble breathing? Stay hydrated and follow orders and stay out of the hospital. People get sicker there! Elaine

Thinking back, I was having difficulty but it all came to head on Monday when I felt physically weak, could barely walk, and breathing was difficult because simple walking left me feeling exhausted. Thank you for thinking of me. I should be discharging from the hospital today.

Oh how awful for you...feel so sorry

It may be totally unrelated to Ibrance...hopefully it’s a coincidence and you can continue with your medication

It’s so disheartening though

Pulmonary embolism is a rare side effect of Ibrance but I’ve been off Ibrance for about a week and was also told cancer patients are at risk of blood clots.

I just spent 4 days in the hospital due to multiple blood clots in both lungs. I have been on Ibrance for a year. I asked my oncologist if Ibrance was the cause. She said that cancer causes blood clots and cancer patients are more likely to get them. Since my cancer is not progressing, she also kept me on Ibrance saying the risk of the drug is worth it since I have no progression. However, I will be on Eliquis (a blood thinner) for life. My oncologist said that was a good thing because it will prevent new clots from forming moving forward. I hope you are feeling better. I am still not 100% and am trying to get my energy back. My cardiologist doesn't want me doing anything strenuous for a month--so no gym, kayaking, or cardiovascular exercise for while. All in all the experience has been quite a shock.

My oncologist had taken me off Ibrance anyway because it was starting to fail (I was just starting my new treatment on Monday) but I was also told to hold off on strenuous exercise and not to go to work for a month. They want to make sure my acute symptoms have improved.

Let’s say Luvenox because I can’t think of the name right now. 😄😄 It’s an injectable blood thinner though. I’m sure I got the spelling wrong but that’s basically what it sounds like they’re saying. Having MBC is fun, right? 😄😄😩😩

I did read somewhere that Ibrance side effects could include blood clots. As you said, you may never know for sure.

Oh, so sorry to hear your news! So happy you are recovering and will get out of there soon.

Take care and take it easy when you are home.

Love and prayers,

I hope you are feeling much better.

When I was first diagnosed with mbc, after a fall and a hip fracture, I had blood clots in my legs while in rehab. Because of this my oncologist prescribed Kisqali (ribociclib) instead of Ibrance. She said Kisqali causes fewer blood clots than Ibrance and since I had already had had them in my legs she felt Kisqali was better for me. Kisqali has worked very well for me.

I go to a Breast Cancer Center and the doctors only see patients with breast cancer. If you have the opportunity you may want to discuss this with your oncologist.

All the best to you dear friend,

Audrey

Okay, so it could have been the Ibrance. 🤔 I’ve been on this cancer journey for a while and never had blood clots until the Ibrance was d/c’d. It was d/c’d because I was no longer benefiting from it.

I am on Xarelto for blood clots. The copay for me is fairly high ($45/mo), but I found that if you have private insurance, the manufacturer will subsidize most of it. I assume Eliquis is the same. Just wanted to share that in case it’s applicable.

I’m on Lovenox injections for now. It cost $20 for 60 needles. I have Kaiser.
