Radiotherapy fatigue

Hi ladies

Just wondering how long it can take to feel normal(ish) after radiotherapy...I had sabre radiotherapy in July and I’m still wiped out

I managed to get on my horse for a short steady ride yesterday but was exhausted...today I couldn’t even think about it...I was fatigued just grooming him and doing a feed...almost feels like my lower back is weak and not supporting me...hard to explain have any of you felt like this...I almost felt it was an effort to drive my car and it’s an automatic fgs

Hi Barb,

I'm sorry to hear that you are still feeling such extreme fatigue. Did your oncologist give you any indication of how long it would take to notice any improvement? I had physiotherapy last year after palliative radiotherapy, which really helped. I didn't want to rely on painkillers.

Hi Barb

When I had radiation I had bad reactive pain at first/ after taking decamethasone for a week the pain was gone. I was wiped out for few months. Radiation stays in our bodies a long time I would speak to your onc when you can.

Rest- you just had the wedding and as joyful as it was, was still a lot for you. You push through like I do and it’s not the best thing sometimes♥️

You’re so correct Frances....I think I’m superwoman sometimes and expect to do what I was capable of a few years ago and it’s bloody frustrating when I can’t

Also my chums st the stables don’t really understand...how can they?..I wonder sometimes if they think I’m exaggerating but honestly the fatigue thing is awful

hello, my mom finished radiation on mediastinal lymph nodes a month ago (she did VMAT radiotherapy which is different from what you did) but still today she feels tired, eats little because of nausea and stomach ache. The oncologist told her that the side effects disappear after at least two months, she is also doing faslodex and ibrance, which does not help improve the symptoms. I start to get worried ..

I send you a hug ❤️

Thanks for the hug!!

Maybe I’m expecting to just get better quicker...it’s over 2 months and I thought I’d be ok by now

I’ll have to be patient

Best wishes to your mum

Can’t remember but have you tried a small dose of steroids?

It was not mentioned to me either when I got radiotherapy on my spine. I could not believe how awful I felt. I looked it up and saw it was usual to give steroids. When I had radiotherapy on both breasts ten years ago it did not make me feel tired at all. I spoke to the oncologist I was seeing at the time and she thought get steroids would be a good idea. She put me on 2mg of dexamethasone daily. After a couple of weeks I cut it down myself to 1 mg and then 0.5mg. It was a lifesaver. X

I wonder why I wasn’t given those...I told my oncologist about how I felt a few weeks ago...annoying if I can have something to make me feel better but it’s not offered

Thanks for info

It does help Barb especially with pain. My Pcp just put me on it today dexamethasone 4mg twice a day for sciatica pain. It has to be tapered down but definitely ask♥️♥️

It takes awhile to get over radiotherapy fatigue. Plus you had the wedding and everything. Try to rest up some.
