Canceled vacation!

Clair19 profile image
44 Replies

Hello ladies! Well my vacation I had scheduled for 6 months was canceled. I was not feeling good for 2 days. We got to the airport hotel and woke up at midnight throwing up and unsteady on my feet. So we drove back home and I cried myself to sleep. All my in laws had taken vacation and made plans for us. The Verzenio is not agreeing with my system. I pray I can go back on Ibrance at lowest dose. So anyway thanks to all of you who have been supportive. I’m sorta down right now. This disease is so bi-polar, gee the ups and downs. I hope all scans and biopsy’s went well for everyone. 💗🙏

I feel so bad for you! You have been waiting so long. Do you vomit often on the verzenio? Hope you feel better.

Sorry I thought I wrote you. No just nauseous all day with no energy. I didn’t even want to get out of bed. Unlike me. So for now just on Faslodex. I hope I do okay for a few months.

Hey no just nauseous all the time I have tried everything. I think I’m going to ask to go back to Ibrance. I will let you know. Thanks.

Don't know if this will help? I was very nauseous on cruise, they gave me goslings ginger beer. No alcohol. A few sips with a straw took it away. It happened another day and same thing. A few sips and I actually ate dinner. You can get at tWalmart or liquor store . Worth a try.

I’m so sorry to hear this. You’ve been looking forward to this. I’ve been in bed this weekend w a cold or something too. Just called oncologist because I’m not sure what to do. Think they want me to get labs to check wbc. I haven’t had a cold for 2 years and 12 years before that!

Do you think it’s medication or are you fighting a stomach bug? 🤗

Clair19 profile image
Clair19 in reply toSnowcone16

Hey, no it’s been bad since I started Verzenio! I’m weak and can’t eat. Yeah we sorta disappointed everyone but they understand. I spent so much money on clothes, shoes and other things. Oh well maybe next year. I don’t like the Verzenio at all. I wish I could just take Faslodex and be through with everything else. ❤️

Snowcone16 in reply toClair19

I don’t recall if your dr tried a lower dose of Ibrance? Maybe that’s an option. Or try it again for 30 days? I had .9 at my first labs, 1.7 wbc at my second and third.

Ah Clair so sorry you don’t feel well and a long awaited and well deserved and needed vacation was thwarted. That happen d to me in 2014 when I was diagnosed. Trip to England traded in for many trips for chemo. I always get some kind of trip insurance. Do what you need to do to straighten this out. Get a massage ior your nails done or spa day when you’re up to it and plan the next vacation. I am always on the Rick Steves website . Browsing tours and travel forum. Has kept me going. This will pass. Big hug and wish for feeling much better soon ❤️

Thanks for that. Unfortunately I had everything under the sun for vacation.😊 Wow 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 so sorry, did you get to go? Thanks again.💗💗

I planned to go in 2015. Sometimes it seems like life is out to get you. Actually landed in London, took bus to Bath where tour started. Got call that my 95 year old mother was in hospital and it didn’t look good. Flew back the next day. She passed. Glad I was there. Went in 2016 and it was great. I travel as much as I can. Writing to you from Aruba where I just saw sea turtles hatch and head toward the ocean. Try calling Delta and tell them you can provide MD note. I got nowhere with Virgin Atlantic the year I cancelled (first time). In fact pretty unsympathetic. Sending you a hug. This is a blip. You will get to go again. ❤️

I’m so sorry about your Mom, glad you got to finally go.. And in Aruba good for you and have a great time. Thanks for your encouraging words. I will call Delta and see what they say. I won’t keep you, your sweet to take time out of your vacation. Good luck and thanks for everything, glad the turtles are headed home.🐢

I feel bad for you. I was hoping to take just a day trip today and my dog was sick so I have had to change plans. I know it’s just a day trip, but in my mind it was my first big outing. So I am disappointed. So I am sure you must be very disappointed and upset. Hope you can still go

Thanks so much. Well I don’t think they will reimburse the tickets. I can call Delta but I doubt it. Yes I cried myself to sleep the first night. My in laws were very upset but understood. Even though Ohio is nothing great I miss my Ohio family, which is my husbands family. Thanks again.💗💗

Oh Claire, I am so VERY sorry to hear that you are struggling so much. My oncologist has most of his patients on 100 mgs of Ibrance but a few taking 75mgs because their counts continued for 6 months to be too low and they kept off the 3 on 1 off week pattern, so he finally changed them to 75 and they are doing well. It's worth a try. I don't remember if you tried the 100 mgs. I know I do much, much better on 100 mgs than I did on 125 and I am hoping and planning to get reduced to 75 mgs in the near future. Please look on youtube for tapping and try that. It is a huge help for many things.

Clair19 profile image
Clair19 in reply toblms

I suggested the 75 mg, he said it made my Neutrophils so low. So I’m just hoping nothing gets worse in the meantime. I only have about 5 spots on spine and rt lung has small plural effusion. So I’m hoping the Faslodex works right now..

I'm so sorry to hear that you're not feeling well and had to cancel your vacation plans. I can imagine how disappointed you are for yourself and your family. I agree, life is full of ups and downs with this diagnosis. I hope that you can get your tickets refunded.

Verzenio sounds rough. Can your doctor prescribe medication to counteract the side effects?

Sorry Clair! There will be another trip! Pamper yourself at home. I pray you can resume IBRANCE. I agree with the lowered dose. Wonder why the onco never tried it. Hugs!

Sorry to hear u are not feeling well and feel your disappointment!! Like everyone has stated speak to your doctor about the alternative. There will be other trips and plans . This was the bump in the road that we all fall in to at times! Hope u feel better !

So sorry about your trip. We never seem to know how we are going feel day to day. My counts have been low. I took two weeks off of Ibrance 75. She now has me taking it every other day. Maybe that is something you could ask about and get off Verzineo. What is so maddening you don’t feel bad from the cancer, it’s the darn meds. I am struggling with med changes myself. I feel worse now than I have since diagnosis in 2016. Cancer is stable. It’s the meds! Try again soon!

Clair19 profile image
Clair19 in reply toJulSoul

Your so right it’s the meds. Ibrance killed my blood work and Verzineo killed my life. I’m totally thinking if the medicine is doing more harm at this point. The Faslodex is great so I’m praying that will keep me stable and feeling human. We are going to do this until September then go from there. I wish you luck on what ever you decide for you. 🙏

I am so sorry you had to cancel your trips ! We all need something to look forward to to keep us going ! I also experience nausea 24/7. I have been this way ever since beginning total brain radiation and then Taxol about 10 months ago. It gets tiresome. I was also on ibrance for awhile before switching to Verenzio for low WBCs along with Faslodex. I have tried everything for it including medical marijuana! Nothing has worked. I don’t want to hear that I “need to adjust to my new norm “. I hope. you can find the right medication fit that works for you. When you feel better, go and see your family and enjoy!

Clair19 profile image
Clair19 in reply toBurgerde

Did you get nauseous after starting Verzenio? How long have you been taking it? I did fine on Ibrance except wbc and Neutrophils. I might ask for Ibrance back along with Faslodex. Thanks!

Dear Clair- so very sorry to hear that your trip had to be cancelled. I, also, am learning I cannot count on feeling well on any given day and especially holidays. I have found Benadryl helpful for many symptoms but does make me tired (except I just switched to Xgeva & now have insomnia big time). It truly seems like a not-so merry-go-round!!! Hope you get to feeling better soon in all departments.

Clair19 profile image
Clair19 in reply toBurgerde

Hey Burgerde, I was so bad he took me off it. He says that I should not have to live like I was. I stopped taking it on my own due to the fact it was worse than Chemo! And he knows I never complained about 6 months of strong chemo. So you need to do what you feel is best for you. I just could not live with constant nausea and so weak and tired. Ibrance was a walk in the park. But it’s your body and life, so you need to talk to your oncologist and figure out what you can do. Good luck and keep me posted please!

Oh Dear!!! Sickness is the worst thing...makes you feel really low. So sorry you missed your vacation, maybe the excitement of going away was all too much....... another time. Yes, you must ask if you can go back in Ibrance or something else......have you tried taking anti sickness tablets??? Or even fresh ginger helps.... Take care of yourself. Stay strong, God bless R x

Clair19 profile image
Clair19 in reply toStE72

Yes the nausea meds don’t work, I eat tums. I need some quality of life. I can’t function being nauseous all the time. Maybe he will put me back on Ibrance low dose. Thanks for responding.. Good luck to you....

StE72 profile image
StE72 in reply toClair19

It is better to prevent nausea rather than trying to deal with when it happens. If Tums help that is good, take everyday regardless. I did have a spout of nausea before and I took over the counter travel sickness pills and they helped me. Also when I have my breakfast of porridge, blueberries and strawberries I chop up about half inch of fresh ginger and stir in, not only anti sickness but also anti inflammatory!!

Fresh stem ginger is used a lot in Asia from nausea, sore throats and antiseptic.

Thinking of you... Rosemary x

My daughter, who is certified as a chemo nurse, suggested Benadryl for nausea. I have other meds but that one really seems to work well for me.

Hi Claire, so really sorry you had to cancel. I know everyone says to just keep living life as best you can...well, I've learned not to plan too far in advance. Lost out on a couple big trips in the past years...felt like more then me being disappointed - I feel like I disappointed our travel mates, my husband etc. We stay fairly close to home mostly now

My comfort zone ... takes the pressure off my family if something should happen. I'm good with that.

And as far as your medication- YOU have final say as to what YOU want to live with. Just my opinions...good luck & wishing you better days ahead.

Janet

This blasted cancer takes so much from us! I am really sorry that you had to cancel your vacation trip, but it sounds as though you couldn't have enjoyed it. I agree with others who wondered if a lower dose of Ibrance would work, or perhaps extending the off time. It's certainly possible to play around with the dosing schedule. One thing I have learned is to always get trip cancellation insurance. It's cheap compared to the cost of flights and various reservations. A travel agent friend who has also had another good friend with advanced cancer has been really helpful. I hope that whatever you end up doing treatment wise, that you will be comfortable and have peace of mind and be able to take a nice trip sometime soon!

Clair19 profile image
Clair19 in reply toPJBinMI

Thanks, yes the insurance we now know should have gotten it. And I would not have felt like doing anything being so nauseous. It was a big let down for everyone. Next time just a few days and if we fly afternoon flight for sure. This is the first time this has happened. Thanks for your wonderful tips.

Clair please look up Brad on youtube and try tapping--it helps everything, honest! Also, have you tried acupuncture for nausea? That is very helpful. And I understand medical marijuana is very good if legal in your state. Apparently, there are different tinctures of cannabis to use but it seems that you would have to find a doctor to tell you where to go or what to take.
