After emergency brain surgery November 2023, I was diagnosed with Stage IV, EGFR lung cancer. I started Tagrisso immediately (targeted treatment), followed by radiation for the brain tumors, and then followed chemotherapy.

I am a 57 year-old, non-smoker and extremely healthy. This surgery and diagnosis virtually came out of the blue - two weeks earlier I was hiking miles at 10,000+ feet and did not have a clue as to what was about to happen. I am here to learn more about others coping with a similar diagnosis and to see if I can be of help in the learning community.

I’m also an avid mountain hiker diagnosed out of the blue in August 2019. Stage 3 EGFR mutation. Chemo/radiation then surgery. Have been on Tagrisso 3 years and thriving. 76 years young. lol

Tagrisso is a miracle drug and will serve you well. A few side effects, but very manageable. Keep hiking when you can, it is great for our health and soul.

Thank you for your response. I am so glad that your treatments have been going well these past years. An inspiration to be sure. Have a hiking trip planned in a few weeks to southern Utah. Planned before the diagnosis and subsequent treatments but I am determined to make it!

I love hiking in S. Utah. I have been there many times. Capitol Reef, Canyon Lands are my favorite. So glad you are moving forward on your plans. Be safe!
