Although l think the BHF are too singlular in their approach ie they are only interested in atherosclorosis. their guides are good where foods are concerned.
what meds are you on? have they said what they want your colestoral to be? my colesterol was always aound 6 but they wanted it 3 so it was no fat for me and 40mg simvastatin per day. remember sugar turns to fat
Atrovastatin 40mg. They haven't given me a target, my cholesterol has always been moderately high. Last blood test Total 333, LDL 257. I had a very high CT Calcium Score over 20 years ago and I may have Familial hypercholesterolemia.
l have familar hyperlipademia we produce too many lipids so it is expected that we should have blocked arterie but the opersite is true! my arteries are virtually fat free but l get lipomas (fat lumps). my heart attacks are for a different reason, my arteries go into spasm and stop blood flow. back in 1986 they told me to brew my own beer but to use the minimum amount of sugar posible?
Wow............ that's interesting. A prescription to brew your own beer....... not bad.
Are you on statins or any other medication?
Seems one can live with stable plaque, although unstable plaque or spasms can be dangerous.
what they said was if the recipy said 2kg of sugar, try 1.75, then 1.5 and so on untill it didnt work then go back one step. your then still enjoying your life instead of life being a chore. l havent done any drewing for a while, l might just have another go.
l also watch what over the counter drugs l take? mmostmodern OTC drugs are vasoconstrictors, it is how they work but l think anyone with a heart related condition should avoid these
Did they test you C Reactive protein? If it is high, then that is an indication of vascular inflammation. Sugar or should I say refined sugars are one huge contributor to inflammation. Get the use of those way down and is should help in many ways.
Had C Reactive protein checked 9 years ago (0.2). This year HA1c 5.5%. I was on a Ketogenic diet for 10 weeks and my fasting blood glucose dropped from 93 to 83. Seems I have been borderline diabetic for most of my life. It does seem like Inflammation is the key.

I have just finished reading the book, Breakfast the most dangerous meal of the day. I suggest you give it a read. In a nutshell, cortisol production makes us insulin resistant which would create an obvious link between stress and heart disease. It appears that the other point in time when we naturally produce more cortisol is in the morning, perhaps connected with kick starting the system. We are therefore naturally more insulin resistant in the morning. The book suggests no breakfast, but for those who find it hard to do this it also suggest types of breakfast. I would suggest you self glucometer test after an hour of various breakfasts and see which have the least effect on your blood sugar. For example I put porridge in the bin after discovering it sent my blood sugar from a fasting 80 to 116, I want a breakfast that keeps it under 100
It's like trying to complete a puzzle and not having all the pieces. I eat mostly real organic food and have eliminated all grains. I am experimenting with cycling in and out of Ketosis. I mostly eat my first meal after 12PM. Two meals per day within a 6-8 hour window. Yes.........if one does eat breakfast it seems best to avoid carbs. I have been researching statins and most of what I have come across, makes me want to stop taking them. Even if one is not suffering from major side effects, there is a miriad of minor side effects. The fact that they prevent the bodies ability to produce Co Q10 and interfer with many other important funtions, makes me pause. I don't know the relationship between statins and arterial spasms. I do feel that statins may be neccessary for certain situations. I would suggest that anyone taking statins also take Co Q10.
We are all so different in needs and finances, tastes etc.Before any heart disease I had quit bread, potatoes, sauces(including ketchup and mustard) and cheeses.I thought I was doing so well..than boom, a quad bypass than a year later it failed and 4 stents put in.Point being that we must enjoy with in reason food...Now I think for me..mediteranian (sp..sorry...) seems to be a stable on cholesteral.Best wishes...jj
