My son is 35 and was diagnosed with Sarc about 10 years ago. It started after he had a bad chest infection, he also has asthma. At first it was treated as a persistent chest infection, but when he developed erythema nodosum on his shins and I did some research I immediately found his symptoms matched those of Sarcoidosis. With auto immune issues running through our entire family I insisted he undergo further tests. Finally (after much argument with our GP), my son was sent for a chest xray. When the results came back all hell broke loose and he was sent to see a Consultant Chest Physician. He confirmed Sarc but fortunately on a second xray he was already improving so steroids were not needed. However the following year it flared up again and he was put on a short course. He ticks along symptom-wise, having flares when he is stressed or catches a cold.
Recently he has developed swollen lymph nodes in his neck with tenderness in other areas (groin). It's not massive, but clearly concerns him. He went to the GP who ran a barrage of bloods including all the inflammatory markers, thyroid, liver, kidneys etc. They all came back normal, but he still has the swollen lymph nodes. He feels well in himself, has no fatigue, no weight loss or cough and a good appetite. The GP isn't acknowledging the Sarcoidosis element at all. My son is getting himself in a bit of a panic (after reading bloody Dr Google). What I want to know is, are the lymph nodes a plain result of his Sarcoidosis? On his original diagnostic xray his hilar nodes in his chest were all grossly enlarged, so surely this is a similar reaction and a mild seasonal flare up. Any reassurance would be gratefully received. As a Mum I'm also worrying.
