Is it possible to self-refer to a Neurologist who specialises in 'our' field? I would have to follow the NHS route, in spite of knowing the wait will be over a year. I live in the south of England.

I've heard Dr Chris Murphy is recommended?

No. It's not possible to self refer on the NHS.Only if you pay privately.

Call Dr Chris Murphy' s secretary to ask what his waiting list is like.

You can also try Prof..Guy Leschziner at Guy's in London. His sleep clinic may have cancellations.

I went to see Dr Murphy.

Booked myself on line, had an appointment 2 months later.

He is brilliant. It was £250.

Good luck 🤞

Please can I ask what he suggested ?

I made the suggestion tbh and he went along with it.

He did say he usually recommends Oxynorm and will go up to 30mg.

I wanted to try Buprenorphine as the Oxynorm wasn’t doing much for me.

He wrote a 3 page letter to my GP, it was very in-depth.

Did your GP agree to prescribe Buprenorphine?

Yes. My GP said she would only prescribe it on a neurologist advice.

I live in the United States. So forgive my ignorance with the UK medical system, but do you really have to wait a year to see a specialist? That is ridiculous!! 😮

Using our free system... yes, Lana

My expected wait time for NHS was nearly 2 years 🙁 I paid to go private and waited 6 weeks.

Waiting times for routine surgery in some parts of Britain can be over 3 years.

Depending on where in the south you live, there's also Dr Robin Fackrell at the Sulis Hospital in Bath. You need a referral letter from your GP to get an appointment, but that's relatively straightforward. His fee is £265.
