Gabapentin : Hi, everyone. Can you tell... - Restless Legs Syn...
Gabapentin

No it won't stop working, During the first year there may need adjustments in the dose and after that you may need to add 100 mg after say 7 or 8 years
There have been a few reports of this. But it's rare. Most patients do not develop tolerance.
With me it stopped working after a few months on 1200mg. Upped to 1800mg and still not working. Am about to start Pregabalin instead.
I don’t mean to challenge people’s personal experience or expertise but want to say my neurologist told me we do build a tolerance to gabapentin and it’s permanent (meaning taking a break from it will not rectify the situation or enhance our sensitivity to it). I asked when it was first being prescribed and remember because the answer bummed me out. It would be good news if he was wrong!
I took Gabapentin for about a year gradually upping the dose to 1800 mg but it stopped working. I had to taper down very gradually and am now on 5mg Oxycodon in the morning and 10mg in the evening. Unfortunately my RLS is very severe. I have been through all the usual drugs but have found they all stop working after a time. The Oxycodon allows me to sleep at night which is a blessing as I was walking around for hours every night for months. Since I have been on the Oxycodon I get a nights sleep! Hallelujah!!!
