I posted this article a while back, but it’s worth re-posting I think. When doing research on-line, I wouldn’t necessarily always use the term RLS. You might find more info by using the phrase “D2 receptors.” So, if you want to see whether severe calorie restriction might benefit RLS, use that phrase along with “D2 receptors” or just dopamine receptors. That’s how I found the following article: bnl.gov/newsroom/news.php?a....

Dessert? Think Twice!
I qualify as an obese gym rat.
Hey, what’s up with your iron intake? Did you get my last reply to you? I don’t think I like this huge dose of iron every night idea.
I am still taking a huge dose of Iron Bisglycinate every night. I am up to 750% of the RDA. I am ok with it, because my ferritin still shows less than 100. Once I am done with this bottle, I am switching back to Liquid Ferrous Sulfate. I know from past experience, Liquid Ferrous Sulfate is much better at raising my ferritin than Ferrous Bisglycinate. Although Ferrous Sulfate is much less forgiving if I don't take it on an empty stomach.
I have taken Ferrous Bisglycinate for over a year and I just can't get my ferritin over 100. It's wasn't that hard with Liquid Ferrous Sulfate.
Still taking the Dipridamole. I wasn't taking the Ibuprofen, then I had an accident on my bicycle, went over the handlebars and landed on my shoulder. My back, hips require the ibuprofen. Hence, RLS is not too bad lately.
I actually felt it my RLS turn off the other night. It's such a weird feeling and very hard to explain. Like a washing feeling then calm.
I used to get that feeling with the iron. I felt the RLS drain away. Like I said in my last post, I think the huge doses of iron is triggering huge doses of hepcidin. And thus, on any given night, you are absorbing very little of that iron. Just a thought.
I take rather large doses of Vitamin D. Vitamin D blocks the hepcidin. BTW, when I say huge, I mean 20,000 IU daily. My Vitamin D was 60, IIRC. My goal is 100 and I have never gotten there.
I never had this absorption issue with LFS (Liquid Ferrous Sulfate). My record Ferritin with LFS is 276. I was taking 650mg once a day.
Very interesting article! While I'm not obese, I do snack (sweets are especially alluring) during the night when I'm walking around with RLS! Just walking gets boring, but having snacks gives me that instant dopamine hit!! My goal is to limit the snacking little by little, with the ultimate goal being no snacking.
