Roughly how long after starting gabapentin can you expect to see improvements if it is going to work for you?Obviously I know this will be different for everyone but just a rough idea would be good!

Generally about 3 weeks.

But can vary for a number of reasons.

Are you taking magnesium within 3 hours of the Gabapentin?

Why are you going on gaba now?

If you have come off another med for RLS, you will suffer withdrawal effects, which the Gabapentin won't help with.

Good luck.

I'm on no medication at the moment , just supplements, and just planning when and how i'm best to start. Been trying to supplement my iron. Taking magnesium early in the day. Neither had any noticeable effect.

Are you taking gabapentin at night in split doses of 600mg, 2 hours apart? 3 weeks at the average dose (1200-1500mg) should cover your RLS.

I'm not taking anything at the moment but want to be confident I know what I'm talking about when I go to the doc and ask for a prescription.

It takes 3 weeks to be fully effective but won't help much with the starting dose of 300 mg. After 3 weeks increase it by 100 mg every 2 days until it controls your symptoms. I told you previously how to take it. If you have forgotten I will be glad to repeat it.

No, I'm fine with that. Thank you. I have just been taking the iron to see if that made any difference before trying to get a prescription but haven't noticed any improvement- been about 6 months now.

It took me about two weeks to start feeling the benefits and about 2-3 months to get the dose right.
