can ashwagandha help with RLS

hi I was looking for supplements that can lower my cortisol levels without aggravating the RLS, Iv tried google and not found much information but came access ashwagandha, again not much information on how ashwagandha can affect RLS , .

I’m managing my RLS with codeine , but still trying to find a routine that gives me the best sleep . So don’t want to take anything that can interfere. So was wondering has anyone tried ashwagandha?

thank you 🤩

It's a herb that reduces stress and anxiety and may help insomnia. It is safe for RLS. I have not heard of it helping RLS.

Thank you , I was looking for something that can help with my anxiety etc , but not aggravate the RLS , as I’m aware that many things that help people sleep has an opposite affect on people with RLS

As with all these medications, they come with a warning.

Very few have any serious research support-- try running any you come across through Coughlan.

Otherwise ,go with real recommendations, not on the website, and particularly personal experiences, as you are doing by asking here!👍

Finally-- you can always try it yourself ,- and get your next of kin to let us know you got on?? (Just joking, before Kaarina puts me in the naughty corner)

All the best.💚👍

Hi Kiran. I've been taking Ashwaghanda for a while. Not helping restless legs or sleep . Does help with anxiety during the day though.

Thank you , what time of day do you take yours ?

I take it in the morning. I think I tried at night but hard to remember what I've tried when. Anything that sedates my nervous system taken at night makes RLS worse. Good luckx

I took it for a couple of months a few years back before RL got really bad. Apparently you shouldn't take it for too long ( can't recall why or how long) but you can stop a while and restart it. It helped with stress which in turn helped me relax and my RL was not quite as bad for a while, several months. For me stress (includes exciting, good stress) makes my RL worse so the ashwagandha was useful. I took the Solgar brand.

L-Theanine worked well for me for a few months. I started with one in the AM and one in the PM. When there were breakthroughs of RLS. I went to 2 in the AM and PM which worked for a while longer. I decided 3 and 3 would be too much. If I had to do it over again, I'd just take it about 3X a week to increase the months that it would work for me.
