I take Oxycodone 20mg twice a day for my RLS but I do have withdrawal symptoms since it only works for 4 to 5 hours. Should I be taking 10mg four times a day, it sounds so simple but I bet there is a catch. Any help would be great, Thanks. PS Could I cut the 20mg oxycodone tablets in half.

hello JoeR I’m sure someone else will answer on here with more knowledge but in the meantime but I just wanted to say DONT cut the oxycodone - it’s long term release and it’s my understanding that cutting the tablet would give you an overdose. .. so def don’t do that.

I was on oxycodone and couldn’t cope with the withdrawals which I found really scary. I would think that spreading your 40mg dose over the 24 hours will be best - as you say - but you will need 10 mg tablets -

There is extended release Oxycodone that you might want to try. It was a bit too much for me but might work for you. I only take 5mg myself.

Hi there. Oxycodone was a lifesaver for me for a long time, until it wasn’t. Buprenorphine Has completely eliminated the RLS.

You first need to find out whether the tablets are short term or extended release.

It would be highly unusual for long term oxy to last only 4 hours.

They are supposed to last 12 hours ,but in many cases only last about 8 or 9.

The short term ones are set to last 6 hours. And generally do so, but again some people get only 4 hrs.

I use a mixture of long term 10mg (lasting 9hrs) and short term 5mg ( I can push them to 7 hours!?)

That works for me.

The main thing to remember is that opioids needs/ MUST be taken evenly through the 24 hours.

Otherwise you will suffer from mini withdrawals.

I had to change to buprenorphine as oxycodone works for such a short period.

If they are short term take 20 mg every 4 to 6 hours. However that is a large daily dose.

Taking only 10 mg I assume doesn't cover your symptoms so taking 10 mg every 4 to 6 hours you may not only have RLS symptoms but mini withdrawals. You can try it and see what happens and you could try 15 mg every 4 to 6 hours. If they are short term they can be cut. I would experiment.

Your problem of course, will be convincing your doctor.

You can ask for 10mg pills and take every 6 hours. It may help.If not, as you're on the max. daily dose, you could ask for Buprenorphine sub lingual pills. I switched in 2016 and they have competely stopped all my RLS.
