Hi, my doctor has just prescribed Prednisolone and Doxycycline for a COPD flare-up. Are both these OK as regards my RLS.
Doxycycline : Hi, my doctor has just... - Restless Legs Syn...
Doxycycline
Prednisolone is a steroid which is probably OK - there really isn't much in the literature to say whether steroids are OK or not. Doxycycline is fine.
If the Prednisolone does bother you let us know
While a Hidden (possibly Manerva) thought it doubtful that Doxycycline triggered RLS, unless I've misread it four other posters on this chain seemed to think otherwise. Of course, they may have been mistaken:
Thanks for all your replies. I started both prescriptions yesterday and thankfully can report that my Targinact worked as normal last night and I slept well.
I presume from Derry and on Targinact. I’m from Belfast and was started on Targinact about 3 weeks ago. Some nights better than others. I’m trying to adjust the timing of my doses to get maximum effect for lowest dose. I’m on 5mg and I now take one dose at 6pm and one at roughly 9 pm. Does this seem reasonable?
Hi David, I'm on Targinact about a year now and most of the time it works well. I take 10mg about 2.30pm and 15mg about 9pm
Wow, I might have considered 10 mg a very big dose and I was reluctant to increase beyond 5 mg. I tried to concentrate my doses to close to pm, ie close to onset of symptoms for maximum effect. Also, I seem to be feeling a bit of nausea in the morning which I wondered if this may be due to the opioid — or perhaps anxiety I’m having.
Targinact is suppose to last 12 hours and meant to be taken every 12 hours, however most people agree it only lasts 6 to 8 hrs maximum.I use to take 10mg twice daily but found that I was getting RLS in the early hours of the morning and the increase to 15mg at night helps with that most of the time.
I wouldn't take the Doxycyline , its on the hit list for RLS sufferers
A few people have reported RLS symptoms on doxycycline as I replied above in response to Sue, but most - as in intermk 's post in this chain - say it's fine. For example, there's one letter querying it on Dr Buchfuhrer's rlshelp.org/ but the response was that it's not known to trigger/exacerbate RLS and symptoms must have been caused by something else.
Have you personally found it problematic, or can you reference your source? This could be very helpful, thanks!
I have been taking Doxycycline for about 6 yrs now and there have been no known side effects nor has it had any effect one way or the other on my severe RLS which is controlled by Buprenorphine x 6 mg nightly.
