Good morning to all

I’ve now been on Pragabalin for six months or more, started off on 50mg I’m now on 275 increased by 50mg three days ago. I find these are very good giving me much needed rest at night, I take the required amount about 7.45pm, but lately even with the 50mg increase I wake up at 12.30, 1.00pm for a couple of hours then I can go back to sleep, am I taking this medication correctly time wise, is anyone else in this position? Is this dose normal, high or low.

Take it 1 to 2 hours before bedtime. The normal effective dose is 200 to 300 mg but you can take up to 450 mg and even 600 mg. I would increase it a little more.

Hello. I have tried almost every med out there for my RLS and have had bad experiences with pretty much all of them. Tramadol worked for the longest, but then Augmentation happened. My Doctor at the Mayo Clinic put me on iron supplements, magnesium, and I have worked up to 500 mg of Pregabalin with great success. I have had no symptoms for over 6 weeks now. That has never happened before. I had to experiment some with the Pregabalin dosage and finally settled on 500 mg. I had gone all the way up to 600 mg but I was a zombie the next day. Everyone is different and what works for one may not work for another. Just hang in there and you should find what dose works for you. Good luck!

I forgot to mention that I take the Pregabalin about 2 hours before going to sleep.

Try changing the timing AND splitting the dose to see if it helps before you increase.Try 100mg 2 hours before sleep and 175mg just as you fall asleep.

Thank you. I really appreciate that advice. My GP mentioned that in passing but didn’t make much of it at the time.

I have had a similar experience. My effective dose was 350mg. That was until 13th January when my legs started going ballistic around 30-60 mins after going to bed. I have only had 1 decent night of sleep since then. I don’t know whether to start taking Codeine again (as that’s the only thing I changed), or start tanking Iron supliments, or up the Pregab a bit more, or start splitting the dose, or insisting my GP changes some of my other meds for ones less likely to exacerbate RLS, or ask to try Gabapentin again (it turned me into a zombie when I tried it before). I’ve even thought about going back on Pramipexole as at least it worked until I hit the highest dose and augmentation set in. ARRRRRGHHHH!!!

Wow - that's a lot of choices. I would start with splitting the doses as Joolsg suggested above. If that doesn't work I would go back on the codeine unless there was a reason you stopped it, and next if that doesn't work, changing some of your meds. Don't even think about going back on pramipexole!

Thank you. I need to try something. It’s good to have your help.

I started taking pramipexole after 6 months off and it only took a few days for the augmentation to settle back in.

That settles that then🥴

I take 400 mg Pregabalin at 7:00 p.m. then 300 mg gabapentin at bedtime. Sometimes I wake up and need to get up for just a few minutes and get back to sleep. If and when that gets more bothersome, then I will have my ferritin level checked again. My RLS symptoms increase is my warning the ferritin is low. Get yours checked, maybe that’s the culprit.

It was 163 last time it was checked. I did mean to ask the Dr the other day but all my pre prepared speech went out the window!

I have to take pregabalin at least 2 hours before bedtime and ALWAYS on an empty stomach. Last night we had a late dinner with family and I took my dose (300mg) about an hour after we ate. Went to bed 1 1/2 hours later. Had horrible pain and had to take an extra sleeping pill to finally get to sleep. On another note- my dr told me that the max daily dose is 450 mg. And no more than 300mg at once. I tried 150 mg in the morning too but it made no difference.

I did what Sue and Jooles told me to try last night, I took 100mg 2hours before I went to bed, then before I went to sleep I took 175mg it worked well for me last night , let’s hope it continues .

Hasn’t anyone else gained a lot of weight from Lyrica?

I may have already told you this but you might want to try gabapentin. Although they are basically the same drug except you need to divide the doses, and the side effects are basically the same, some people find that the side effects that bother them on one don't bother them on the other. Pregabalin is known to be more likely to cause weight gain. If you are still on pregabalin multiply the pregabalin amount by 6 to get the correct dose. If not the starting dose is 300 mg and if has been awhile it takes 3 weeks to be fully effective, If you need more than 600 mg take the extra 4 hours before bedtime as it is not as well absorbed above 600 mg. If you need more than 1200 mg, take the extra 6 hours before bedtime. If you take magnesium, even in a multivitamin, don't take it within 3 hours of the gabapentin as it reduces the absorption of the gabapentin. If you take calcium don't take it within 2 hours for the same reason.
