I try to alternate between mirapexin(unfortunately) and tramadol. Its the only thing that seems to work for me. Ive tried most other meds except methadone and the one which makes you feel nauseous as they wont give it to me. Lately though Im not doing so well as when I come off the tram I wake up every hour or so with the dreaded leg after weird dreams which I remember. This can happens 5 or 6 times a night. Could I be having withdrawal symptoms?I take the tram for 7 days and then mirapexin for the same number of days. Im augmenting on both I think but I dont know what to do next. Oh yes Im back on kratom after stopping for quite a while. Thanks everyone for all the help over the years.

Tramadol has been a life saver for me
I used to use Tramadol .Periodically tolerance developed. I took a month's drug holiday and it worked again. It could be withdrawal. And it could be tolerance. Also Tramadol can cause augmentation for some people.
I have been using tramadol for almost 20 years now and it's still the most consistent relief I can find with the least amount of side effects. I change the time of day and evening when I take it frequently as that seems to trick my system. It's likely useful to take a month off if possible as well. The biggest factor for me is food. Not just what but how much at any meal especially dinner. Low sugar in the evening is also good for me. I continue to use magnesium oil or cream on my legs almost every day.
Hi it looks like you've been through all the options it seems to me that the dopamine agonists end up making it worse eventually and opioid painkillers work up until your tolerance is too high and the Dr won't or can't increase the dosage.Because I was on methadone for years I never knew I had rls until I tried to come off it then dopamine agonists made it worse basically my Dr who didn't really know about rls decided going back on methadone would be the easiest thing for him and because I was desperate I just agreed now I think I will be on methadone forever and methadone is like that highly addictive and difficult to get off so you have to weigh up the pros and cons also methadone does work but try to use only the lowest dose possible to control your symptoms.
It’s difficult for me to see where you’re at in terms of your RLS but my guess is that you’re augmenting on Tramadol. I myself have problems with everything. Even morphine is now causing RLS. I’ve only been trying out opioids for about 6-7 months and it’s all going downhills with increasing issues from the drugs. I know I have a massive problem with serotonin metabolism and my guess is that most of the problems come from increases in serotonin levels (even if subclinical).
Hi there I am sorry you are struggling. I was on Tramadol and it helped for a while but it also seemed to interfere with my decision making process I almost made some devastating decisions while on it! I had tried it years ago with the same effect but had forgotten how much it affected my common sense! Then I started augmenting
Finally my doctor agreed to trying a low dose of methadone I am on 3 mg and have been for nearly a year and a half. I almost forget I have RLS even though I have had it since early childhood! Now it is triggered by things like white wine or Sucralose etc but I can quickly get it under control with a dose of magnesium or Hylands Restful Legs, It has been life changing for me with no side effects that I am aware of. I think it took a couple of weeks to adjust to it and a couple of months upping the dose to find the right level So far just 3 mg works for me
All the best in finding the right treatment for you!
Teresa
So glad for you that the methadone works well. They wont prescribe it where I live
Do you know this is unbelievable but my Dr actually told me that I would have to submit a urine sample that tested positive for opiates for me to be prescribed methadone even though I had just went through hell for 2 years to get off the stuff I should of sent a complaint but I was so desperate for the rls to stop and get some sleep.
ahhh I am sorry They don’t where I live either but I pestered my doctor for a year with research papers and be finally agreed to try it He was amazed but I know not many will do it!
yeah, of course. Tramadol is an very addictive opioid. However many folks with severe RLS only low dose opioids prevent most of our severe symptoms.
Methadone is the most effective for us poor souls on this nasty stuff.
Low defined as we don’t get high or any euphoria that the higher does give.
Low as in only 5mg or so.
