Hello. I guess this has been asked many times but I'm new so would appreciate any views.
I had built up to take 300mg of Neurontin at 4 weeks and then requested a repeat prescription and agreement from my NHS GP to increase the dose to 600mg. The Neurontin was definitely assisting but not completely.
I got the OK to increase the dose and took a further 300mg of the repeat prescription medication but found it less effective (poor sleeping). I checked and found it was Gabapentin Milpharm (made in Malta I believe). I respectfully requested the GP replace with Neurontin but was told;-
"The medication you have been prescribed is gabapentin - this is the generic name. It also has different names if manufactured by different companies, hence it is also known as neurontin or gabapentin milpharm. There are very strict rules about the manufacturing process so it will be exactly the same active ingredient."
Since then I've stepped up the Gabapentin Milpharm (500mg - realize a relatively low dose} and it is assisting but have this nagging doubt that it's not as good as the original med.
I'd appreciate any views on the effectiveness of generic versus brand name Gabapentin.
Many thanks again.
