Just wanted to put this out there....

I am currently trying to fight Requip augmentation with Gabapentin...well, actually it wasnt working,so im trying to come off both! Couldn't sleep last night, what's new, and i had to take the old 1mg dose of requip....and.. 40mg Melatonin. I am into the afternoon of the next day.. still cant wake up. But i have no augmentation symptoms as i am resting today. Napping was always impossible. My cat and i are spending quality time together. Let you know what happens tonight. I am not clear headed, nor do i WANT to do anything (not me at all). But no RLS!!!!

40 mg....

just occured to me, augmentation is the problem. So the nervous system is over stimulated...too much dopamine. Melatonin supresses dopamine, right?

That is a mega dose. I'm surprised you are living to tell the tale.

No wonder you were groggy.

I would recommend only 0.5mg as a maximum dose, and would start at 0.25mg for help with insomnia and for not longer than a few days at a time.

Melatonin also has a bad reputation for setting off RLS. I imagine your dose would have catastrophic effects.

Good luck.

I agree very much with Madlegs. If you are indeed taking 40 mg. Melatonin this is an extremely high and probably very unsafe dose. A few years ago a GP put me on a very low dose (I cannot remember how much but probably about 2 mg). Within a few days my heart rate had doubled and I was in a bad way. An ECG confirmed things were not too good and GP thought I was developing heart failure. Fortunately on stopping the melatonin heart rate went back to normal.

Do take care. Sleep is important but not sleep at any price.

Good Wishes

Thanks so much for your concern. Ive taken from 10-15mg melatonin in the past with no ill effects. Not to say it wouldn't hurt someone else but it was a 40 mg. Tab purchased through Amazon....several other companies offered even higher doses. Im not advocating this for people sensitive to melatonin. Im not sure ill take more tonight....but so far RLS symptoms are less. Melatonin is a natural substance. Requip and Gabapentin are not.

why not try taking the 40 mg of melatonin about 5 to 6 hours before bed? Then you might not need the Requip.
