Consultant insist I take dopamine for Parkinson's. Specialist for RLSsay Coe off it. What do I do?

Some people can take dopamine agonists for RLS without any problems (including augmentation). However I believe the dose for Parkinson's Disease (PD)is considerably higher than for RLS.

Are there any alternatives to dopamine agonists for Parkinson's?

Can your RLS specialist liaise with your PD consultant?

You are stuck between a rock and a hard place.

If you have both conditions, the dopaminergic drugs to treat Parkinson's will inevitably lead to augmentation as the dose is so high. You will then have constant all over RLS. That will be unbearable.

The Parkinson's website simply suggests you contact RLSUK but that doesn't help you at all because RLS UK now advises against dopaminergic drugs for RLS as first therapy.

If I were you, I would look into brain stimulation or any new trials for Parkinson's that don't involve dopaminergic drugs.

I think you need a really long discussion with both your doctors. I have Multiple Sclerosis and RLS. I know that of the two diseases, I would rather have MS than RLS any day!

See if there are any trials of new non dopaminergic drugs that you could register to try.
