Parkinsons: Was at hospital for check... - Restless Legs Syn...
Parkinsons
Unless you agree with the diagnosis I would suggest you get a second opinion. And if you do come off pregabalin, do so very very slowly to avoid withdrawal symptoms especially since you are on a high dose. You also need to wean off tramadol slowly. Do not stop either of them abruptly.
All best wishes for the Parkinsons treatment, assuming that the diagnosis is correct: what new meds are they putting you on?
I'm sorry to hear that but please do consider a second opinion and let the neurologists know that you had terrible augmentation of your RLS symptoms on pramipexole. They will want to put you on a dopamine agonist at very high dose, but any of the dopamine agonists will send you straight back into severe augmentation. It may be a consideration now of quality of life.If they can't offer you drugs that will not cause increase in severity of your RLS, you need to decide whether it is better to live with the Parkinson's symptoms or the severe augmentation you went through with RLS.
I also have Multiple Sclerosis but I can honestly say that if they tried to give me a drug that would help my MS but put me back into severe augmentation of RLS, I'd refuse. Severe RLS is my worst MS symptom by far.
I think you should perhaps ask to see Prof Ray Chaudhuri at King's London as he is a Parkinson's specialist but also specialised in RLS for many years so will be aware of having to balance the RLS against the Parkinson's.
Hi AuldR - I agree with the others. You must get another opinion. You have been treated for RLS for a long time - this is not going to change. I think whoever saw you at hospital does not give credence to RLS likeso many other d octors. Their lack of knowledge and dismissive attitude is unbelievable. Have you got someone to help you organise a second opinion? You must not stop your present treatment abruptly or you will suffer even more. Hope you get this sorted soon. Best wishes
I would suggest that Parkinsons has most of the same causes as RLS and that the meds are just masking the symptoms rather than addressing the cause.
