Replacement for Metadone

My doctor for RLS is in Calif. and I was able to see him on Zoom to get my Methadone, but the laws have changed and I have to go to Calif. and see him in person and there is no way I can take that drive. So my question is what can I replace Methadone with that would work just as well? I have very bad RLS and I'm 85 years old.

I was hoping I could give you the name of a doctor there that might prescribe methadone, but I'm afraid I can't.

Could you use a combo of Uber and airport? See whether your Healthcare Provider (AARP, United Healthcare, etc.) could help you make the arrangements. Or try to get a prescription through local pain care management doctors. This Drug War thing has really made it difficult for us patients who have legitimate needs.

Have you asked him to find a doctor near you that will prescribe methadone? I use tramadol and /or kratom and they work. I take tramadol 50mg 2 hours before bedtime when needed and/or 4 capsules of Kratom maeng da. you can buy the kratom at Kratom Country.com

Print out the part in the Mayo Clinic Updated Algorithm on RLS that discusses opioids and show it to the doctor.

kratom works great for me but essential tremor and alzheimers runs heavily in my family and just like with gabepentin and requip I get hand tremors and memory issues where I have not suffered either before or since not taking them. It scares me pretty badly as my mother shakes badly and is in an institution for her memory loss - she has been on gabepentin for a decade and I'm afraid kraton works for rls and causes those problems for the same reason as gabepentin and requip did.

OK. I am sorry to hear this. It is quite a struggle for all of us to find a doctor that will prescribe narcotics, even in the very low doses that RLS patients need. Psychiatrists are more apt to prescribe scheduled drugs, and if you ask any doc if he/she would be willing to prescribe a low dose narcotic for just 7 days (that is renewable every week) they might be willing to do that.
