Half a tablet doesn’t give a clue what the dose is. The pills come in a variety of strengths. It’s clonazepam

Half a 500 micro gram sorry that’s how my phone keep spelling it

tealsea in reply toHages

If you are taking 250mcg, that is over a thousand times lower than the dose I take at 1 mg. I can't even do the math on it. I don't think you know what you are taking. A microgram is so tiny, it couldn't possibly be felt. Also, I am sure clonazepam doesn't come in microgram tablets.

250microgram = 0.25milligram = A quarter mg.

1mg=1000microgram.

I’ve put the details up

Since clonazepam has a half-life of 40 hours it can cause next day sedation. Xanax has half-life of 11 hours so would be a better choice.

It doesn't help RLS symptoms, only makes you sleepy.

Hages profile image
Hages in reply toSueJohnson

Doesn’t seem to help with sleeping during the night but certainly not good the following morning.I was aware it’s only a sleeping aid I’m not liking the benzodiazepines route at all. I believe she also suggested Tramadol so I’m speaking with the GP on Friday

SueJohnson Not true as It helps with my RLS, and it is indicated for the treatment of RLS. I’m not groggy the next day either.

Different strokes for different folks.

_ same thing here with 0.4 mg of clonazepam bedtime. Love it. Stop when I want, as I am doing these days for other reasons than not working. not meant to stopping legs, yet Helps a lot for my sleep, as muscle relaxant (less moves, less leaking from my Cpap mask), quick back to sleep during my high number of arousals/awakenings, long half life favorinng accumulation and keep lower doses, favoring back to sleep after common RLS crises around 3 to 5:00 am....and intervalo between my two stages sleep style.

Good luck

It helps with your RLS symptoms because it helps you sleep and has a calming influence on your legs. I took it for anxiety for many years and it had a calming influence on that. True, not everyone is groggy or tired the next day.

Why have you been prescribed this drug.?

I can't spell it!🙄😊

Hages profile image
Hages in reply toMadlegs1

Pregabalin not working then gabapentin not working so neurologist prescribed clonazopam

SueJohnson profile image
SueJohnson in reply toHages

How much gabapentin did you take?

Hages profile image

2x150 at night but it caused blood pressure problems so had to drop it

If you don't like the drugs to hide the symptoms why not try the dietary approach to address the cause? Many people find a low carb diet avoiding processed foods beneficial. I follow a low carb diet and avoid refined seed oils. Some people find oxylates to be a problem, others find niteshades a problem

My story is exactly the same. Nothing so far has worked except Tramadol which has now lost its efficacy, so my neurologist has put me on half a 0.5mg tablet of Clonazepam at 8.30 in the evening. So far it has done nothing for my severe. RLS in fact it seems a bit worse to me. But I am so tired all day all Iwant to do is sit down or sleep neither of which of course I can do so I’m at screaming pitch all day . Consultant is ringing on Monday morning so I am preparing to beg for Temgesic.

You say nothing has worked. So I assume you tried either gabapentin or pregabalin. How much did you take? Many people decide it doesn't work because they don't take enough.

Started on pramipexole for 8 years or so then then augmented so to pregabalin go wouldn’t increase any higher so tried gabapentin which caused BP problems then neurologist tied clonazopam which is where I’m at now with daytime grogginess so need to move on !

SueJohnson in reply toHages

Interesting - I have not heard of it increasing BP, although have seen reports of it reducing BP. Obviously that was not good for you.

Have you a list of anti nausea meds that don’t make rls worse please?

SueJohnson profile image
SueJohnson in reply tobedith6

Safe anti-nausea medicines are, Kytril (Sustol, Granisetron, Sancuso), vistaril (Hydroxyzine) and Zofran (ondansetron). I took Zofran after surgery myself.

(Apologies for misspelling meds below) I was started on clonazepam .5 mg when I was first diagnosed 18-20 years ago, having suffered with RLS for 10+ before that. It worked for the next decade with an increase, at some point, to 1mg. I was taken off of it and switched to Requip (Ropinirole) which never worked well and had to be bumped up again and again until it was maxed. Then moved to Mirapex (Pramepaxole) which was a repeat. Severe RLS (every day and night) and meds that don't control it have made sitting through a movie, taking a nap, flying, sleeping, road trips, etc next to impossible. Latest combo that had it controlled and let me sleep was:

REQUIP

2mg morning

2mg afternoon

4mg at bedtime

CLONAZEPAM

2mg bedtime

New neurologist in new state doesn't prescribe clonazepam instead adding Nuerontin (gabepentin) 300mg 1x daily which was increased to 3x. So not controlled for 11 months and leaving me 30 min to 3 hrs of sleep every night. Makes it difficult to function, worsens symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis and Bipolar 2. I tell people, as a cancer survivor, I would go thru chemo ten times if someone would come up with a cure for RLS. It is the worst of all the ailments.

FYI...Meds that increased RLS:

Seroquel

Abilify

Wellbutthis

I hope this helps someone else struggling out there.

900 mg of gabapentin is a low dose. According to the Mayo Clinic Updated Algorithm on RLS: "Most RLS patients require 1200 to 1800 mg of gabapentin daily." Requip at 8 mg /day is 2X the max. Are you still on it?
