Did he increase it gradually, eg 25 mg at a time, allowing you to find out if each increase helped? Or just one big jump to 550 mg which is a very high amount? 450 mg is normally the maximum amount. Looking at the side effects of pregabalin, it says "Pregabalin can cause a severe allergic reaction. Stop taking this medicine and get emergency medical help if you have: . . .difficulty breathing"
pulsetoday.co.uk/news/clini... speak to your doctor asap.
That's a big increase and you need to be seen urgently.
I am a 6'2'' 230lb healthy male. I used to take 300mg of pregabalin. I could not imagine 550mg. That to me just sounds wrong. The pills I took were 150mg each, even 450mg is huge. With 300mg I had shallow breathing and sometimes a hard time swallowing. I am currently weaning myself off pregabalin slowly... right now it's 100mg a night. I think you should talk to your doctor.
Yes I had breathing problems for a while but eventually they got much worse to the point where I had to be hospitalised. The hospital said it was anaphalaxis! I was allergic to something in the drug. I had been asking my GP about the breathing problems before this (UK NHS) and he gave me some prednisolone and told me to increase my use of the inhalers I use for asthma. They eventually switched me onto Gabapentin in hospital with an emergency resuscitation trolley beside me! Fortunately it wasn't needed and I don't have any breathing issues with Gabapentin. X
