Many thanks for the replies from joolsg and madlegs 1 I assume it was a combination of diet change, more steak, Italian and Indian meals on holiday and a change of routine plus a lot of walking when on holiday that maybe suppressed my RLS symptoms.

RLS on holiday
Stress?
No stress. Incidentally thanks for your advice and web links to the Mayo clinic regarding Ropinerole augmentation and Gabapentin. I consulted my GP but from the conversation it was apparent I knew more about RLS and augmentation and he was reluctant to prescribe gabapentin let alone read the Mayo clinic report, however I ask for an blood test for iron level so I will see what that says and take it from there. Maybe more forceful in asking for Gabapentin or see another GP who understands what we RLS sufferers want.
You may have to be more assertive with you GP.
You can also refer your GP to the UK National guidance for GPs on the management of RLS published by NICE (National Insitute for Health and Care Excellence).
He/she can't ignore this so easily.
Gabapentin is clearly identified as a treatment for RLS.
If he/she ignores this, then change doctors.
I can't give you a link to the guidance from here, but you can Google "NICE CKS for restless legs". That should do it.
