On no account go back on a DA , especially if you've already augmented.
If you've done everything correctly with the Pregabalin ,avoided all possible triggers, and had iron tested. Then the next step would be to try Gabapentin or opioid.
You are running out of track when Pregabalin doesn't do the stuff for you.
Make sure you are doing everything right with the current setup.
Cheers.
Thanks ,yes I agree with you ,sometimes it's better the devil you know , red wine , and some foods are triggers , but it's so difficult to asertain what'a trigger is and what isn't , I could cut out everything I enjoy and probably sleep a little bit better , but what sort of life is that , I suppose you have to weigh everything up ! I like a beer at the weekend only sat and Sunday ,sometimes it makes it worse sometimes it doesn't ,in the week I have less of a problem thanks for the advice
Yes, it is hard to identify triggers, and yes, they are often things you love. I had to give up my desire/plan that some magic bullet would take away the problem and overcome these food/drink issues. (I think some people may get lucky and have this result.)
Ten years later I have chosen getting better (not perfect) sleep, and being able to mostly count on being able to do the things I want to do in the daytime, and, to the degree I can, cutting out the triggers. I can still eat a lot of wonderful things. But yes, alcohol has gone by the wayside...no small loss. The alternative is shaky legs driving me literally crazy.
As Madlegs says ANY dopamine agonist isnot recommended as you've augmented before.
Pregabalin turns into gabapentin once it's absorbed so is the same thing, Pregabalin is better than gabapentin because it's absorbed better.
Theoretically if pregabalin doesn't work then gabapentin won't either. This seems to be the case after having suffered augmentation.
This puts you in the position of having "refractory" RLS and the accepted treatment is an opiod.
Some people find cannabis help, by which I mean cannabis itself or medicinal cannabis. I do NOT mean "CBD oil".
Hopefully you're aware of the non-drug remedies forRLS which should be considered alongside medication and in some cases instead of.
These are 1) iron therapy, which addresses the main casue of RLS and 2) the identification and elimination of aggravating factors.
How do I go about the iron therapy?
rupinole worked for me for years when i was taking pain killer with it.when they took pain killer away, stopped working, and there advise to me to add more ropinole. and i have been trying to stop taking ropinole last 4 months. with draws are horrible. best of luck
Iron therapy. It all starts with a morning fasted full iron panel. Your ferritin should be above 100 closer to 200. Transferrin Saturation Percentage should be above 35%
If your iron is really low it can take years to help, an infusion may be required. I got one and it was life changing. I am not sure if it will help you, but it would be the absolute first thing I would ever do, if I had to do it over this RLS stuff over again.
I am trying to learn from my mistakes. Good Luck!
There is some good information here, you may want to print it out, read it and show it to your doctor.
