Hi. Been awhile since I posted but hoping for advice. My husband has rls in all limbs he is taking gabapentin 2 100mg a night and still taking 1 1mg ropinirole. I understand he is most likely augmenting so hopefully he will decide to wean off. He goes to neurologist tomorrow and I want to find a medicine that is not a dopamine agonist. I don't know what would be okwith gabapentin and ropinirole until weaned off. What has everyone had good results with? Also we are in the U.S. thank you

You are correct. If it's in all limbs, that's classic augmentation. Sadly, as he and you realise, the only solution is a slow withdrawal from Ropinirole, using Tramadol or another opioid to help witj the withdrawal symptoms. And cannabis.About 3 weeks before the last dose of Ropinirole, start increasing the gabapentin . Average dose is 900mg.
Dr Buchfuhrer believes gabapentin and pregabalin (lyrica in USA) aren't as effective for those who had bad augmentation. If that's the case, low dose opioids may be a better option.
Withdrawal is really, really difficult but possible. Many of us have managed it.
He also has. An anxiety disorder which he takes buspirone for, not sure if that makes rls worse or not. But when he don't get sleep he gets more anxiety attacks which make rls worse and it's a vicious cycle. I get anxiety over his suffering lol. He is a truck driver so cannabis isn't an option unfortunately. That would probably be the answer for most problems if allowed. Though
I have been taking Gabapentin for over 2 years at the high dose of 800mg 3 times a day. That's 2,400 mg a day. (This is for neuropathic skin nerve pain) I developed RLS 10 months ago. So, I would say gabapentin doesn't do much to treat RLS.
I take gabapentin and Iron. Has your husband had his iron checked
i have RLS in all my limbs and have never taken ropinirole.
