RLS is associated with end stage renal failure and is known to respond to potassium supplementation.

I suggest your husband asks about this.

It's the dialysis that's the problem not the blood thinners.

Hi Manerva Thanks for your reply but potassium is very dangerous for dialysis patients its monitered very carefully because too much can stop your heart and RLS has got worse since they changed blood thinners probably to a cheaper version Thats NZ for you .

Hi Murano, yes I appreciate that potassium, is closely monitored, both too much or too little is dangerous.

However, there is some research evidence that supports what I wrote.

To be honest I'm not quite sure why your husbands haemoglobin is too high, the problem with chronic renal disease (CKD) is that it causes anaemia i.e. a lack of heamoglobin.

The literature is however a little contradictory as I've also read that it can be higher after dialysis.

Another reason for RLS occurruing with CKD is because of anaemia. Anaemia can lead to RLS.

The treatment for high haemoglobin is usually phlebotomy rather than anticoagulants.

There are lots of drugs that can make RLS worse, but I honestly have never heard of anticoagulants being one of them.

It might be a good idea to seek more explanation from the doctors.

HI sorry just read the rest of your message his hemoglobin is high because he was given EPO twice a week and the doctor ordered his iron to be trippled ? i am aiways questioning these Doctors at dialysis they have no communication with patients its very bad in NZ. i just read some information on potassium its very interesting but diffinitly dangerous to take supplements as we dont even know what level it is at the moment .We feel also as his blood is thick at the moment maybe making RLS worse as its just started again with the high hemoglobin its all complicated .Thanks for your feed back
