Spinal Stimulator - a new ray of hope?

It's a VERY small study but I noticed a post on a US RLS forum by someone who has suffered chronic rls for years which was treated with methadone. She had the stimulator fitted in Feb and appears now to have her rls under control and is off methadone!!!

This looks fascinating but I would be terrified to have spinal surgery. Sadly, with the current state of the NHS & the lack of knowledge about RLS in the UK, I can't see this happening here for at least another 10 years. Fingers crossed the USA does more studies on this .

It's the same here (Ireland) but I find comfort in considering that there might be something different around in 10 years time because I expect my existing regime may not be so effective by then and I might need something new (assuming I'm still around).

It's always reassuring to read of new and different things being trialled in the RLS space. Like Jools I'd be a little leery of spinal surgery but still good to have up one's sleeve as a possible last resort. Thanks for sharing.

Sounds promising. If it worked I would have it in a heartbeat! Even if there were risks involved.

Very interesting. I hate to be critical, but... I noticed the patients all had secondary RLS related to spine issues. I would love to see results on people with idiopathic (and refractory!) RLS. The person from the US forum may be a first in that category.

I wouldn't mind to be a guinea pig, as I hate the way the very effective opioids make me feel: dumb.

Good find, ID!
