Does the hospital give you medicine that aggravates your RLS even after you tell them you have it?

I am wondering if anyone else has had trouble when they go to the hospital with there RLS. It seems every time I am there surgery, emergency whichever the occasion. I tell them I have it and not to give me any drugs that will aggravate it. They always do! The anesthesiologist acts as if they know about it. They acknowledge my concerns. Then turn right around and give me meds that bring on my RLS.

Does anyone else have this experience and how can I keep it from happening.

The problem is, partly, unless they're a neurologist (and even then), they may not know which medicines make RLS worse.

You could try making up a list and if you have to go to hospital, take it with.

I have heard you can get an RLS alert card like you can for diabetes etc. I'm afraid I've forgotten where you can get it from.

The other problem is that whatever the reason for you going to the hospital, especially in an emergency, they may consider some medicine is a greater necessity than the risk of worsening RLS.

The alert card is available through the US rls.org website. I am not sure whether you can access it if you're not a member. Maybe rls-uk.org has something similar?

I'll ask, thanks.

A medical card is provided by the RLS Foundation in America, butyou have to join to get one.

Found this out hard way when I was younger. Went to the emergency room with stomach cramps. Gave me Reglan. Whoa jumping out of my skin. Let them know. Next thing their giving me benedryl to counteract this. Double whoa. At least they finally gave me ativan to calm down. Now I've informed myself with knowledge on all the naughty meds that can make you freak out. Always ask before they administer anything.
