Has anyone taking Lyrica for restless legs ever managed to lose weight after stopping the Lyrica. I am desperate to lose the 20lb put on with this drug.
I haven’t posted for some time as the Lyrica has helped my RLS but I cannot stand the weight gain. Any help or information would be gratefully received.
Thank you.

Hi quiltingmum,I also use pregabaline (300 mg) with 20 kg extra as a result (next to sleeping much beter with less rls). I started a diet with very low carbs and a lot of protein and low fat. After two weeks I started losing weight. Within 4 months a lost 22 kg. At the moment I watch the intake of carbs. No bread, pasta, Rice etc. And a lot of vegetables, Chicken, tuna, beef, salmon, etc with intermittent fasting rules.
I’ve been on pregabalin for over 3 years. I initially put weight on but found it stabilised after a few months plus I also started to take more notice of what I ate. I’ve managed to lose some of it, the rest I am prepared to put up with, as a good nights sleep is priceless. I eat healthily, don’t smoke, drink well within my recommended units and walk the dog every day.
I thinks it’s a case of finding what is important to you. For me it was calm legs and a good sleep. The weight I work on.
Thank you very much Pam 34. You have given me even more hope. I have been on Pregabalin for 2 years but am more determined than ever after your sensible words, to make the diet work.
Hi, I put a little weight on while taking pregabalin, a few kg, but it seemed to level off. When I stopped taking it the weight didn’t drop off by itself but it reduced after I went back to what I know is my normal diet and calorie intake. I think for me at least the weight increase was partly down to the disinhibiting effect of pregabalin which meant I wasn’t making good choices a lot of the time and was living for the moment. I suspect it’s like that for a lot of people and some of the posts seem to support that I.e people have managed to keep the weight down even on pregabalin. Everyone’s different however. Good luck.
I have been able stop the weight gain and have lost about 8 lbs in the past month. I had to go back to a 12-step program like AA for those of us with eating disorders. It may not have been the Lyrica that caused the weight gain, but it certainly did not help. I have been hungrier than I have been before I started the Lyrica. I did need to allow for a mid morning and evening protein snack
Thank you Jerold for taking the time to help me. All comments about your success losing weight make me think it will be possible as long as I have will power.Good luck to you and thanks again
I go to a program called Overeaters Anonymous. It is the same program for compulsive eaters as Alcoholics Anonymous is. There are meeting all over the country. If you go to OA.org. You can find meetings close to your location. They are doing Zoom meetings not. Do not be afraid to copy down the number or ask for the number from someone you hear that has something you want. It is a spiritual program in terms of how we relate to others. It is not a religious program. Go to 6 different meetings as they all are a bit different and somes you may identify with better that others. anyone with a problem with eating - overeating, restricting, binge and purge or just unhappy with your eating you are welcome regardless of your circumstances. There are no dues or fees.
