Links to SIBO & IBS

Hi all, hope you’re all coping in this crazy world!

Does anyone know if there is any link to Small Intestinal Bacteria Overgrowth and RLS?

I’ve seen a few old reports which suggest there maybe, but what is the latest thinking on this and has there been any case of successful treatment for SIBO that has resulted in a reduction of RLS symptoms?

Keep safe

There have been several posts about this- enter SIBO in the search box above

A lot of people have found their RLS disappeared after they successfully eliminated the SiBo bacteria with specific anti biotics.

I think there is a definite link. I had severe GERD, and RLS tied to low ferritin levels. I was never tested for SIBO. I just assumed I had it. I treated (still treating) it with the Herbal protocol and probiotics. The low iron I think was caused by gut inflammation and SIBO. Here's a link to a small study and it does not establish a cause and effect but rather that SIBO was found in all the RLS patients.

And a very good SIBO website...

I am way more interested in how you did? If it was successful, can you tell me the symptoms that led to the diagnosis? I really appreciate it!

Are you still doing the fodmap diet?

It’s not a path I’ve taken as yet. I have had an intolerance blood test so far, which hi-lighted a few foods to eliminate from my diet. The reason I did this was that I was suffering with stomach problems for a couple of years and couldn’t pinpoint the cause. I’ve since cut out dairy and peanuts both of which were not mentioned as being an intolerance issue.

To summarise, this is a long term thing and I’m trying to move one step at a time so as not to confuse the issue. The reason that SIBO came up is that it’s another test offered by “Healthpath” and they are keen to investigate the RLS link. But as I said “one step at a time”.

I’ve climbed a few staircases, hopefully I am getting closer to the right floor. It’s a long journey.
