how do i get off pramipexole?

I am taking 6mg of pramipexole per day. It is not working as well as it used to. My doctor is suggesting a slow release pad of some sort but he says I must get of at least 3mg of pramipexole before I try the patch. This doesn't sound very feasible to me. Any thoughts please

Cold Turkey worked for me. I was utterly surprised how easy it was. Afterwards the RLS was much reduced. In retrospect it seems like I had reached a point where the pramipexole was actually a large part of the problem. You could try slow-release gabapentin (Horizant?) and extra clonazepam to get you through.

I would never suggest to anybody to stop pramipexole cold turkey. This is dangerous due to the risk of it causing neuroleptic malignant syndrome. This is potentially fatal.

It can also cause severe withdrawal effects including mental health problems.

Oh my god already with 6mg. It should be a crime to prescribe that high of a dosage. My highest was just over 3mg and that was awful too. Doing a drug holiday can get you down but I believe the patch is still a dopamine agonist. Search these boards for the patch - there are far more educated people than me here who can definitely help. I personally would suggest a conversation about buprenorohine depending on where you are in the world. It’s helped quite a lot of us in getting free of pramipexole. Don’t let them put you on another form of a DA though, it just makes it worse.

Hi im new here and just going through the same, im only on 0.125mg though. It worked well initially but then became less effective and my legs got much worse. So far weaning off has been awful, would appreciate any tips!
