Why is RLS so damn inconsistent?

Could someone please explain to me how one night can be so calm and nice and wonderful and practically RLS free and the next night, I am up and down from the bed and feel like I have been in a bar fight?

Seriously, I try really hard to take all my meds, do all the right things and..... then tonight.. I hate this.

Are you keeping a food/ inputs diary? This will help pinpoint any possible triggers, which may be triggering intermittent rls.

Thanks Madlegs1, I am not keeping a food diary. I probably should, but I live in a town/state that is not known for it's cuisine. You can only eat at Wendy's so often. My diet is fairly consistent , I eat mostly at home. At least I think it is. I am open to anything, a food diary is not a bad idea. I know sugar is bad, I know I have a sweet tooth.

Yesterday, I really didn't eat much, I wasn't feeling all that great. I even had the bed to myself for the first hour, my wife was at work.

I know things are getting better, it just seems like every now and then I backslide, hard.

I guess I will keep swinging. Thanks.

So much of modern processed food is hard on our bodies.I find I have to be absolutely forensic about what goes in my mouth.

Alcohol, msg - which is virtually impossible to avoid in processed food. "No added msg" means the opposite.🧟‍♀️

Think of most of the" organic, healthy, natural taste/ flavour enhancers" MSG.

Just Google 'msg '. It'll have you off food for life.🤠🥳😭

Hi, I get he same, this morning at 06.30 the I noticed the twitching leg was hotter than the other one. It may be coincidence but I will monitor it.

When you find out please let me know! I have found the only way to cope is to accept that it is variable and no I don’t understand it.

Some times its the RLS can be stronger than the meds and over powers the meds, then settles back down again. The "no rhyme and reason to it " This only MY thought on it,

🙄😁

For me the biggest trigger is artificial sweeteners. Even having them in morning with a diet soda impacts my evening/nights.

I am one of the lucky ones. I responded to iron supplements. That got about 90%. Now I usually just struggle getting to sleep. Once I get to sleep, I generally do well.

It took me 5 years of keeping a food diary to realize I could control my RLS by following a low oxalate diet. It took me 5 more years to realize that my liver produces excess oxalic acid when I consume glycine in the form of meat soups and stews. This one was difficult because all the websites giving instruction about low oxalate diets say you don’t have to worry about meats. I can tolerate chicken soup made with breasts, thighs and legs but broth made from the whole chicken has too much gelatin. I don’t have trouble with reasonable portions of glycine rich meats like hamburger. Somehow the soups are more problematic. I also have to avoid asparagus and avocados. My reaction time is about 24 hours, so when I’m having a flare up of discomfort I look at what I ate the day before. Good luck to you.

It is very annoyingly inconsistent!! I haven't had it for 3 evenings in a row, but I know for certain that it may be back again tonight or some time soon because it just doesn't go away that easily. Something that weirdly does work consistently with me seems to be my own natural Adrenalin. If I am worried about something, something needs sorting out at home, or I am feeling particularly anxious about something, then RLS doesn't come into play at all.
