Restless Body Syndrome. Last night I had electric impulses going down my arms & legs, some seem to go from my brain through my heart which I find a bit worrying. I have peripheral neuropathy. Any feedback gratefully received.

Hi, l too have peripheral neuropathy and experience electric type surges in my chest and arms. Sometimes when they are particularly strong/frequent, it feels as though l experience them in my face also. They are quite worrying, l agree, and those in the chest, do make you worry that it’s cardiac related.

I have had test upon test, and nothing untoward has been found. It appears to be just one of those strange unexplainable events, that nerve damage can cause.

I never linked it to my RLS, l guess it could be that, or maybe a combination of both!

Anyway, l hope it helps to know that at least one other person on this forum experiences something akin to what you describe. If you are worried, and you haven’t already, please consult your GP, just so you can rule out any other possibilities.

Best wishes and good luck.

Ps l tend to experience these events during the night or first thing in the morning, just after waking up.

Are you on any medication for your RLS or peripheral neuropathy?

I only ask because RLS in other body parts is very common if you’re taking dopamine agonists like ropinirole or pramipexole - caused by a very common adverse side effect- augmentation.

Hi, no I don’t take anything for RLS. I take antihistamine/sedatives for asthma & excema & now I know I’m addicted to them I’m wary. I did go to a new neurologist (I have muscular dystrophy) & he wanted to do a lumbar puncture & long term drugs for RLS. I’m 72 years old thus politely turned both things down. Thank you for enquiring

I remember now from your previous post. We advised you to try non sedating anti histamines like Clarityn or Allegra because the sedating type worsen RLS.

Yes, the problem is that I will rip my skin to bits unless I’m sedated (which I’m addicted to). I have Phenergan, Vallergan Forte & Prazepan . I have been on anti-histamines for “ever” & I’m not quite sure how effective they are. At the moment I’m trying to come off the Phenergan 25mg but risk sleepless nights. Not easy.
