Another Patent to possibly assuage Augmentation...
Thanks for posting. Both are promising & we do need hope. The treatment to dampen the D1 receptor was mentioned recently & we have so many how experiencing augmentation that the research trial will have no shortage of willing guinea pigs.
The key to better sleep is to find out why your sleep is disturbed. Could be many, many reasons (elevated histamine, ammonia, too much blue light late at night), but one of the keys -- especially for those of us who eat 'too healthy' -- is depleted glycogen levels. If one has enough glycogen, one will sleep throughout the night.
Thanks Kelly - round and round - every single night is a new adventure! I wear blue blocker glasses after 8PM. I mostly eat like a monk - almost the same meals every day - eggs, kimchi, oatmeal, salmon, rice vegetables, fruits - mostly just all REAL food. I've tried the adrenal cocktail - honey and sea salt when I wake up - melatonin - ashwagandha - and a gaggle of other vitamins and supplements.
My RLS and the ongoing insomnia were "sudden onset" - either after a non-diagnosed TBI, and/or fluoroquinolone toxicity (Cipro). Just as sudden onset - the "cure" for me was iron supplements (thanks to Johns Hopkins Neurology website) - evaporating the severe RLS - but the insomnia remains. I ask - why was I iron deficient?
I treated (and still treat) myself for supposed SIBO (severe GERD) - siboinfo.com.
If you have any additional suggestions - I'm all ears!
Thanks for your reply. I'm not an expert at all -- but I did get my RLS to stop (after nearly 2 years) when I figured out how to get rid of an 18-month battle w/c-difficile. Having said that, it's creeping back a bit, which is why I ended up here.
But SIBO is huge -- not only w/RLS, but also sleep issues. The SIBO could be raising your ammonia levels. Have you tried ornithine, or 'l-ornithine'? That will lower ammonia, as will biotin, sodium butyrate, etc..
Also histamine can keep one WIDE-awake. A lot of different foods (especially kimchi) will raise histamine levels, which can be lowered w/folate/b12/methionine. Personally I have to avoid b6 which is in all b-complex -- it makes everything worse for me (and many others), and just found out it lowers folate, so that might be an issue as well.
GERD. I have that issue as well, or 'pseudo-gerd' (where one actually has low levels of stomach acid), and yeah, that could tie in w/SIBO and the microbiome.
I noticed on the siboinfo.com site that they recommend MCT oil because 'fat malabsorption' is common w/SIBO'. That's a huge red flag (IMO) that the gallbladder isn't working well. And I think overall that a lot of GERD/gastroparesis, etc., is not always due to stomach issues, but issues further down the line.
When my RLS gets bad, then the acupuncture points in my legs -- are all along the gallbladder meridians.
And lastly, I tried melatonin a year ago or so and thought it was helping at first, but realized after a couple of weeks that it was making things worse. Melatonin constricts blood vessels...and that's the last thing I needed. I slept much better without it.
Oops. One more thing: A recent study showed that blue-light reducing software didn't help the quality of sleep. So some are saying that perhaps it's other issues around searching the web, reading emails, reading disturbing news, etc., -- that might be keeping people awake.
Shoot -- re my original comment. If you're eating well...do you know if you're eating ENOUGH, to restore your liver glycogen levels? Enough calories? If glycogen is depleted...then you'll wake up more often at night. That was helping me until just a few days ago and I think it's because I'm not getting enough calories again.
